Pre-order the Samsung Galaxy S9 now and get a big data deal from O2 and EE

Monday, February 26th 2018 by Marc Shoffman

The wait for the Samsung Galaxy S9 is almost over.

The latest Samsung handset will hit our high streets on Friday 16th March but you can get it a whole week earlier in some cases by ordering online, and there are some decent big data deals to get you started.

If you order with O2 before 9pm on 8 March you will get the handset exclusively from the next day.

O2 is offering 15GB for the price of 5GB for £49.99 upfront and £56 a month. Alternatively, there is a 50GB deal that adds another 40GB each month for £49.99 upfront and £68 a month.

You can also get 20GB with 30GB added each month for £64 a month. All O2’s deals come on 24-month contracts with unlimited calls and texts. This gives you unlimited minutes and texts.

Just £10 upfront with EE

EE customers can get the S9 seven days earlier by pre-ordering online. The network is offering 60GB of data, unlimited minutes and texts for 24 months, plus you will also get the BT Sport app. This would cost just £10 for the handset and £68 a month.

Sky is offering an extra 10GB of data to customers who pre-order the S9. Its tariffs start at £33 a month for 500MB of data. Existing Sky users get free calls and texts. Non-subscribers have to pay 10p per call or text.

Vodafone customers can pick up the Samsung Galaxy S9 with 16GB of data for the price of 4GB on a Red Extra plan, which also includes unlimited texts and unlimited minutes for £59 per month and £29 upfront cost.

Alternatively, Vodafone is offering 32GB of data for the price of 8GB on a Red Entertainment 32GB plan which includes unlimited texts, unlimited minutes and a choice of Sky Sports Mobile TV, Spotify Premium or a NOW TV Entertainment Pass. This costs £65 per month and £29 upfront on the S9 or £69 per month.

Tesco Mobile has the S9 at £41.99 a month, with 5GB of data, 5,000 minutes and 5,000 texts.

The network also has a tariff with 20GB of data, 5,000 minutes and 5,000 texts for £47.99 a month on a 30-month contract, until 29 April.

Virgin Media claim to offer the UK’s lowest monthly price for the new Samsung Galaxy S9. Prices start at £31 a month with no upfront cost for 1GB of data, 1,000 minutes and unlimited texts. The Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus is just a fiver more each month for the same tariff. These prices are spread across a 36-month contract.

Virgin is offering up to £400 cashback if you trade in your old phone when pre-ordering the Samsung Galaxy S9.

Carphone Warehouse’s iD Mobile is also giving away a freebie when you pre-order. You get a free 64GB memory card with the Samsung Galaxy S9 or a 128GB memory card with the bigger Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus. Deals start at £29.99 a month with £219.99 to pay upfront for 500MB, 500 minutes and 5,000 texts.

How different is the S9?

The S9 is built around its camera, with a new dual aperture lens that powers a low light camera, super slow-mo video capabilities and personalised emojis.

There is a 12MP camera on the back and 8MP on the front and storage starts at a decent 64GB to 256GB. It can also be expanded to 400GB using a micro SD card.

The S9 also has a new app called Bixby, which instantly generates information directly on top of the image that the camera is pointing at, helping with translating language or converting currency.

It will be available in Midnight Black, Titanium Grey, Coral Blue and a new hue, Lilac Purple.
