Psychological thriller The Feed will be a Virgin Media TV exclusive in 2019
Virgin Media has confirmed that it will have the UK rights to new psychological thriller The Feed when it launches globally in 2019.
The show stars David Thewlis (Fargo, Harry Potter) as Lawrence Hatfield, the inventor of an omnipresent technology called, you guessed it, The Feed, which is implanted into the brain of practically everyone and allows people to share information, emotions and memories instantly.
Obviously, things start to go wrong and when users start getting murderous, Hatfield’s family is driven apart.
Michelle Fairley (Game of Thrones, 24: Live Another Day) plays Lawrence’s wife Meredith Hatfield, CEO of the global company that runs The Feed, and Guy Barnet (Counterpart, Pitch Perfect 3) is Tom Hatfield – the subject of his father’s early experiments on inserting the neural mesh that connects people to The Feed.
Nina Toussaint White (Uncle, Eastenders) also stars as Tom’s American wife Nina, who shares his wariness of the new technology.
'High profile talent'
Set in London, The Feed is created by showrunner Channing Powell (The Walking Dead) and based on the recently published novel by Nick Clark Windo. Filming starts in the UK this month.
The 10-part series is being made by Studio Lambert and while Virgin Media will have the rights to show it over here, it will be available to watch on Amazon Prime Video in the USA, Canada and Latin America – frustrating news for British Prime subscribers and for Virgin TV customers on the Player and Mix bundles, as only those on the Full House package and above get access to Virgin’s telly exclusives.
Anyway, Studio Lambert’s chief exec Stephen Lambert is excited. “We’re delighted that such amazing high profile talent as David and Michelle have agreed to star in what we believe will be a much-talked about global series next year,” he said.
“The Feed is all about our relationship with technology and we believe it will resonate with many viewers. Having Guy and Nina as the young couple at the heart of the show is very exciting as we believe technology-savvy younger viewers will identify with them and their dramatic story."
Virgin’s chief digital entertainment officer David Bouchier added: “The subject-matter of The Feed could not be more relevant in the light of recent events and we are very fortunate to have attracted a world-renowned cast and creative team to this UK production.
“Filming will start imminently and Virgin TV customers are in for a treat when The Feed hits their screens next year."
