Roundup: The week's best deals in broadband, TV, mobile, energy and tech
The Winter Olympics are nearing an end and you’re probably wondering what you’re going to watch when you no longer have your daily fix of curling.
Well fear not, because this week’s roundup includes some cracking TV offers to boost your viewing options, as well as options for switching your broadband, great mobile deals and more.
But we’ll start by telling you about those TV offers.
If you’re a Sky TV customer and you’re quick you can get two Sky Sports channels for the price of one this weekend, both in HD.
Another way of getting cheap Premier League football is to get two months of NOW TV’s Sky Sports Pass for £40, a substantial saving of 40%.
Sticking with the sporting theme, Plusnet will give you BT Sport 1 for free if you are a fibre broadband customer and sign up to YouView TV with the provider.
NOW TV has launched its new Smart Stick, that for £14.99 will turn your regular old TV into a smart TV. Fans of Taskmaster may be interested as it was revealed this week revealed that both NOW TV and Roku customers can now access the catch-up service UKTV Play.
Sky customers looking for their next series to binge can simply add Box Sets to their TV package for an extra £5 a month.
Let’s start with the cheapest broadband deal out there right now – unlimited broadband for just £17 from TalkTalk with no upfront fee.
If you’re willing to spend a little more you can get cashback up to £150 from BT with its Unlimited Infinity packages – and there’s no connection although BT does still charge you to deliver the router.
Most people can get superfast speeds over fibre, but if you can’t you may wish to consider 4G mobile broadband instead, and Three is currently offering a 4G router for as little as £23 a month with 40GB of data.
Cable.co.uk has managed to bag an exclusive £10 cashback offer if you take another top smartphone – the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 – from Fonehouse on a £49 a month, 40GB deal.
Virgin Mobile always has some good prices on mobiles and if you pick either the Samsung Galaxy S8 or the Samsung Galaxy J3 you can get a cool TellyTablet thrown in for free.
Tesco Mobile must be feeling generous as it will give you double data on selected iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus plans. O2 is also in a giving mood and will throw in a free game and Xbox Gold Live membership for three months if you buy a OnePlus 5T.
Sky Mobile is offering the iPhone SE for what it says is the UK’s lowest monthly price, so we had a look around to see if it really is. O2 is also pushing the SE by offering 12GB for the price of 3GB.
And Three will be offering the Moto Z² Play bundled in with a Gampod mod from April.
If all these phones just seem a bit, well, old then you may be better off registering your interest in the new Samsung Galaxy S9, which will be unveiled this weekend in Barcelona. Do so with EE and you might win some free VR stuff.
SIM deals and pay as you go
BT is giving away cashback with its SIM deals as well as its broadband. SIMs start at £7 for 500MB and you can earn up to £90 cashback with its biggest data plan.
O2’s pay as you go customers will now be able to roll their unused data over from one month to the next, up to a maximum of double your regular data allowance.
Virgin Media is offering the UK’s first truly unlimited data plan, but it’s only available to existing Virgin TV and broadband customers.
Vodafone will give you 4GB of free data with its £10 Big Value Bundle, bringing the amount of data you’ll get for a tenner to a healthy 5GB.
And there’s only a few days left to take advantage but Plusnet is offering 3GB of data for £8 a month.
EDF Energy is giving away a free Amazon Echo when you switch to its Connect+Control2 tariff. You can then use the Echo to submit readings and ask questions about your EDF account.
Green Star Energy, meanwhile, gives you the chance to earn rewards by signing up and sticking with the firm. Rewards you can spend on either energy saving devices or on gift cards for places like Sainsbury’s and Argos.
O2 has a deal for a smart speaker from Kitsound, which is competing in a marketplace dominated by Google, Amazon and now, inevitably, Apple. The Voice One has Alexa built in and costs less than £100 if you’ve got O2 Priority.
Three is offering the useful-looking Alcatel Plus 12 – a tablet with a detachable keyboard – from £18 a month for a 2GB plan.
If you just want to escape from this world every once in a while take a look at the Google Daydream View, a VR headset you can add to an EE mobile plan for £9 a month.
It doesn’t really fit into any of our regular categories, but we rounded up some of the best photography courses being offered by online learning platform Udemy. They start from just £11.99.
