Sky Cinema launches new animation movie channel
Sky Cinema has announced plans to launch a new channel dedicated solely to animation, in the run up to Halloween.
From Saturday 14 October, Sky Cinema Animation will be on air for three weeks, during which viewers can binge-watch as many animated films as they like.
There is no extra cost to existing Sky Cinema customers and Sky Cinema Animation will be found on channel 306.
Sky Cinema Animation will have over 60 movies to choose from, including The Secret Life of Pets, one of the highest grossing movies of 2016.
Also available to viewers on demand and on NOW TV, the animation collection includes new releases such as Sing and Oscar-nominated Trolls, as well as classic Disney family favourites Robin Hood, The Emperor’s New Groove and Mulan.
The launch of the new family-friendly show comes just in time for October half term.
On Halloween (31 October) Sky Cinema is hosting ‘Family Frights Day’ on the new channel. Spooky themed animated films such as Tim Burton’s Frankenweenie and The Nightmare Before Christmas will be available.
The launch of the animation channel marks the 80th anniversary of Disney’s classic Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Disney’s first feature length film.
Sky Cinema group director Ian Lewis said: “It is the first time Sky Cinema has launched an animation-specific service and it will offer something for everyone.
“From the popular new animation film Sing to classic Disney movies and Pixar favourites, it really will cater for the whole family.
“Our dedicated channels give customers the chance to delve into a genre and enjoy the best of Sky Cinema’s line-up.
“Our Pixar channel in March was a huge success and with animation dominating the box office with some of the biggest blockbusters over the last 12 months, we think Sky Cinema Animation will be another one that will appeal to those young and old.”
As part of the dedicated animation service, Sky Cinema will also celebrate animation on Saturday 4 November, for ‘Ice Age Day’.
For 13 hours, viewers can enjoy a day with Sid, Manfred and Scrat in movies such as Ice Age, Ice Age: The Meltdown, Ice Age: Dawn of The Dinosaurs and Ice Age: Collision Course.
Yesterday, Sky also announced the launch of a ‘pop-up’ channel dedicated to raising awareness about plastic pollution in the oceans and its Ocean Rescue campaign.
