Sky gets exclusive on new UKTV HD channels

Tuesday, August 10th 2010 by Cable.co.uk

Good Food and Eden will be exclusively available to watch in high definition on Sky.

Sky subscribers will get exclusive access to two new high-definition (HD) digital TV channels from UKTV when they launch over the coming weeks.

Good Food HD will debut on August 31st 2010 and will run simultaneously with the existing channel, which is available on both Sky and Virgin Media.

It means that Sky customers will be able to view the likes of the third series of Man vs Food, plus the second series of Good Chef Bad Chef and Top Chef Masters, in HD.

This will be followed by the launch of Eden HD - which will broadcast shows such as Wild China, Planet Earth and Great Rift - towards the start of October.

Keith Porritt, executive director of commercial and joint acting chief executive officer of UKTV, commented: "Both channels have an enviable schedule which viewers can now enjoy in the stunning picture quality that HD offers."

UKTV is currently half-owned by Virgin Media, but the broadcaster is reportedly keen to offload its stake in the business.
