Sky Mobile introduces new 10GB data plan ahead of iPhone 8 launch

Tuesday, September 12th 2017 by Phil Wilkinson-Jones

Sky Mobile is introducing a new 10GB data tariff and knocking £5 off the cost of its 5GB plan.

From 15 September, customers will be able to take a 10GB plan for £20 a month or a 5GB plan for £15 a month, either as SIM-only plans or with a handset on Sky Mobile’s Swap12 or Swap24 contracts.

The new tariffs will be available both to new customers and those already on Sky Mobile’s existing 3GB and 5GB plans.

Sky TV customers also get unlimited calls and texts thrown in with their data plan, while for everyone else these can be added for an extra £10 a month.

Sky Mobile allows customers to keep their unused data (in 1GB increments) in their ‘Sky Piggybank’ for up to three years and use it whenever they want.

Customers can also upgrade or downgrade their package at any time during their contract.

Liz Wynn, Sky’s director of mobile, said: “We launched Sky Mobile to offer more flexibility and great value – and that’s exactly what we’re doing by introducing our new data plan.

“10GB is ideal for people who want to use their phone to do it all – from streaming, browsing and watching to gaming.

“September is an important month for our customers who want to get their hands on the latest phones, and we’re excited to now give them even more choice and value.”

The launch of Sky’s new data plans comes ahead of the expected unveiling of Apple’s new iPhone 8 later today.

The phone is expected to cost in the region of £1,000 and may actually be called the iPhone X.

It is thought the handset will have no home button and will feature wireless charging, facial recognition and an edge-to-edge display.

Last month, Sky started bundling mobile phone and TV packages together for the first time, offering an iPhone SE and the Sky Variety bundle for £35 a month.
