Sky Mobile allows customers to use data outside of the EU for £5 a day

Tuesday, September 5th 2017 by Oprah Flash

Sky Mobile customers will soon be able to use their data outside the EU thanks to a new feature – Roaming Passport Plus.

For a set price of £5 a day users can access data in their plan and manage roaming charges in the same way they would in the UK.

The service is available in Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Qatar, South Africa, Switzerland, Thailand, Turkey and USA.

Sky Mobile currently offers customers the opportunity to roll over unused data at the end of the month in the Sky Piggybank for up to three years. Users can then dip into it as and when they need it.

The Sky Piggybank will also be available to use with Roaming Passport Plus, so customers can still rollover their unused data while abroad.

'USA to New Zealand'

Liz Wynn, Sky’s director of mobile, said: “We’re making roaming even simpler by letting customers use their Sky Mobile data in far-away holiday destinations, from the USA to New Zealand.

“For just £5 a day, you can now browse freely with Sky Mobile knowing you won’t find any nasty surprises on your bill when you get home.”

For a standard 1GB plan it costs £10 with unlimited calls and texts for Sky TV customers over 12 months. The standard package is £20 per month for non-Sky TV customers.

As soon as customers start using their data abroad in a specified location the Roaming Passport Plus package will activate automatically.

Each £5 access pass lasts 24 hours and will restart if the data is used again. To opt out of the roaming passport plus users must turn off data roaming in their phone settings.

In June, European Parliament legislation banned mobile providers from adding roaming charges to customers’ phone bills when using their phone within the European Union.

The new Sky Mobile service is an extension of the Roaming Passport, which was launched in May and lets customers use their plans within the EU.
