Sky offers TV and broadband deal from £40 a month
It’s nearly here, Valentine’s day is tomorrow and whether you see it as a blessing or a curse, the gloomy weather might spoil date night and leave you stuck indoors. No matter, as there are some juicy TV and broadband deals to sink your teeth into.
If you’re coming to the end of your broadband contract and interested in combining a new package with Sky TV you may be happy to hear that Sky has dropped its Sky TV and Broadband to £40 a month.
This price will stay the same for the first 12 months, then for the remaining six months of the contract you’ll pay £48.99 a month.
Sky says there is no activation fee but you will still have to cough up some money upfront to cover delivery charges. This is an extra £9.95 on your first bill.
At the end of last year, Sky changed the structure of its TV bundles. Instead of the Original, Variety and Box Sets bundle that you may be used to, Sky has taken bits from each and combined them to make a single product, Sky Entertainment.
By itself Sky Entertainment costs £20 a month and you get premium channels including Sky Atlantic, Sky One and Nat Geo Wild along with 370 other channels and access to catch-up TV.
To watch specialist content you’ll have to pay an extra fee each month. The most expensive is Sky Sports which will cost you an extra £18 a month. Sky Cinema is £10 a month and Box Sets, Sky Kids and HD channels each cost £5 a month.
The broadband part of the deal gives you download speeds up to 17Mbps with unlimited usage. The speeds you will actually receive will vary but Sky advertises an average of 11Mbps. This should be enough for smaller households to connect to the web for basic tasks like checking your emails, staying up to date with Facebook and doing your online shopping.
Sky Talk is included so you can make calls but will be charged per minute so if you can chat for hours it’s better to stick to using your mobile for calls.
Free money, BT Sport and Amazon Echo Dot
When picking a service that you’re going to be using for at least 18 months, it’s best to shop around to make sure you’re comfortable with your final decision.
Until Thursday (15 February), BT is giving away free BT Sport and £60 cashback with its Unlimited Broadband and TV Starter bundle. For £24.99 a month you’ll get unlimited broadband with speeds up to 17Mbps over an 18-month contract.
Alongside this you’ll get BT’s basic TV package with up to 80 channels and a TV box that lets you pause and rewind live telly. You add the free BT Sport to the bundle as you checkout. It may come in useful if you’re planning on watching the UEFA Champions League tonight.
The £60 cashback is preloaded on to a reward card that can be used at any shop accepting Mastercard. You’ll have to wait 30 days after your service is up and running then fill in a claim form online.
Virgin Media has The Player TV Bundle for £33 a month. You get faster broadband with speeds up to 50Mbps but not as many channels as the packages mentioned above. There’s more than 80 free-to-view channels but there is the added bonus of being able to watch Netflix on your TV through the V6 box and if you sign up by midnight tomorrow (14 February) you get a free Amazon Echo Dot or credit off your bill.
