Sky raises Now TV Entertainment Pass price mid-way through Game Of Thrones
For the first time ever, Sky’s internet streaming service Now TV is set for a moderate price rise. And it appears Sky knows exactly what it’s doing, as it’s set to happen at the mid-way point in the current season of the most popular TV show on the planet: Game Of Thrones.
Announced last month the change to the Now TV Entertainment Pass, formerly £6.99 per month sees it rise to £7.99 per month, a move closely aping Netflix’s February price rise, which saw its monthly fee jump from £5.99 to £7.49.
Now TV operates on a one-month rolling contract, so as of 15 August, those already signed up and set to auto-renew (default) will do so at the new price on or after that day.
Now TV offers a 14-day free trial to new customers. This trial is currently the cheapest way to catch up on all of Game Of Thrones. Theoretically, you could sign up, pay nothing, watch all 64 episodes to date, then unsubscribe.
New customers, however, should be aware that the when they renew they will be paying the new price of £7.99 per month.
Since the Netflix price rise in February, the company has experienced unprecedented growth both in profits and in subscriber numbers.
It will be interesting to witness what effect, if any, this similar move by Sky will have, though it seems unlikely much of the Now TV subscriber base will be turned away from Game Of Thrones mid-season for the price of a loaf of bread.
Now TV can be streamed via 3G/4G/broadband onto either a Now TV box, a games console, Roku stick or box, Chromecast, Apple TV, desktop or laptop computer (PC or Mac) and onto some smart TVs.
