Sky Sports announces live Super League fixtures for 2018 season

Wednesday, November 1st 2017 by Phil Wilkinson-Jones

Sky has announced a bumper schedule of Super League games to be shown live on Sky Sports next season.

The northern hemisphere's premier Rugby League competition kicks off on Thursday 1 February and Sky Sports’ featured game will be reigning champions Leeds’ trip to Warrington.

The following day, another televised game sees St Helens take on last season’s beaten finalists Castleford.

All 12 Super League teams will be featured in the opening month of the competition including newly promoted Hull KR in action against Leeds and Catalans in weeks two and three.

Hull KR’s clashes with local rivals Hull FC will also be shown live on Sky, first on 30 March and then as part of Sky’s Magic Weekend, which will show all 12 teams in action.

Regular Thursday and Friday night fixtures will be shown on Sky Sports Action and Sky Sport Arena, while fans will be able to keep up with the latest Rugby League news on Sky Sports HQ, the Sky Sports app and skysports.com.

Neville Smith, head of Sky Sports Rugby League, said: “We can’t wait to get on the road once more and deliver another exciting season of the Super League.

“The sport grows from strength to strength and with Sky Sports there every step of the way, we’ll be sure to capture the highs, lows and unpredictability of a new season, capping it all off with the 21st Grand Final on 13 October.”

Sky Sports Rugby League presenter Brian Carney added: “Last season threw up some unexpected plot lines, but one thing is for sure, this year will be full of exciting stories.

“I expect Wigan to come back with a vengeance, Leeds will want to prove yet again they are the stand-out team and Castleford will want to repeat the brilliance of 2017 and overcome the Grand Final loss. I can’t wait to see everyone back in action.”

Getting Sky Sports

Sky TV customers can currently get all the Sky Sports channels for an extra £20 a month.

TalkTalk customers can add Sky Sports to their TV package for £34 while for Virgin customers it's £31.75 to watch in standard definition, £38.75 for HD.

Virgin also bundles both BT Sport and Sky Sports together in some of its bigger TV packages.

At the moment, BT TV customers only have the option to add Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Extra for £27.50 a month, or £33.50 a month if they want to watch in HD.

Sky has said the majority of Super League games will be shown on its Action and Arena sports channels so you'd be taking a punt on how many games get featured on Main Event.

A better option may be a Sky Sports pass from NOW TV. This gets you access to all the Sky Sports channels but without tying you into a long contract.

A day pass costs £6.99, a week pass is £10.99 and a rolling monthly pass is £33.99, so you can pick and choose which fixtures matter to you or keep the subscription going for the whole season.
