Sky TV packages to keep Comedy Central and MTV after Viacom deal
Sky customers will continue to be able to watch channels including Comedy Central and MTV after the provider struck a new deal with the channels’ owners.
The commercial partnership between Sky and Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) has been extended for a further five years.
It means Viacom’s popular pay TV channels – including Comedy Central, MTV, Nickelodeon and VH1 – will continue to be available in all Sky homes.
Sky’s advertising sales division, Sky Media, will also be dealing with all sponsorship, digital and on-demand sales for Viacom’s portfolio of channels, which now includes Channel 5, 5 USA and 5*.
Sky Media will now be the sole re-seller of all Viacom’s advertising inventory in the UK and Ireland.

Andrew Griffith, Sky’s chief financial officer and MD, commercial businesses, added: “The extension of our partnership with Viacom is great news for Sky customers as well as advertisers.

“Advertisers will now have access to an even broader range of opportunities to reach customers using Sky Media’s creativity and innovation.”
Sky Media represents all of Sky’s channels and websites across sports, news entertainment and movies, as well as a further 26 broadcasters including Viacom, Discovery Communications, National Geographic, FOX and NBC Universal.
Sky Media’s portfolio of channels reaches almost 50 million people in the UK every week on average.
Earlier this week, BT announced it has made changes to its TV packages.
Its ‘Starter’ entry-level pack features a subscription-free YouView box and is aimed at customers who are new to the pay TV market.
The mid-tier ‘Entertainment Starter’ pack features 20 premium entertainment channels. ‘Entertainment Plus’ gives customers 25 premium entertainment channels and access to the TV Everywhere app.
BT’s biggest entertainment bundle – Entertainment Max – comes with 34 premium entertainment and kids channels, as well as HD Extra and TV Everywhere.
All packages include a free subscription to BT Sport and the option to add extra services including Netflix.
