Smaller hospitality firms don't understand importance of Wi-Fi, says Netgear
Many hospitality and leisure firms don't realise how important Wi-Fi is to customers, a new study claims.
Hospitality providers often don't understand the importance of reliable Wi-Fi connectivity to their guests, according to research from networking equipment firm Netgear.
One in three people travelling for leisure purposes said they wouldn't return to a hotel offering poor-quality wireless internet access, with this proportion rising to two in three among business customers.
However, it seems many small and medium-sized venues in the sector simply aren't recognising this fact.
Some 76 per cent of hospitality firms responding to the Netgear study said they believe the quality of their facilities and customer service are of more importance to guests than Wi-Fi.
Furthermore, over two-fifths claimed guests would be prepared to put up with poor – or even non-existent – Wi-Fi for the sake of the overall experience.
Jonathan Hallatt, Netgear's Regional Director for the UK, Ireland and South Africa, said smaller hospitality and leisure venues need to accept wireless internet access is now "a basic need" for many customers.
"Wherever we are, whether it's for work or pleasure, we immediately look for Wi-Fi access so we can stay in touch with our online world," he explained.
