Talkmobile offers double data on 12-month SIM-only tariff

New customers signing up to Talkmobile’s 12-month SIM-only deal will now get double the amount of data. The operator has increased the data allowance on its Large 12-month SIM-only tariff from 2GB to 4GB for a limited time only.

The tariff also includes 3000 minutes and 5000 texts for £10 per month.

This deal is part of a raft of mobile offers launched in the run-up to Black Friday and Cyber Monday and will run until Monday 30 November.

Talk Mobile, a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO), uses Vodafone’s network to provide services to its customers.

Earlier this year TalkTalk claimed that Vodafone would stop allowing MVNOs to use its network; after it ended agreements it had in place with Mobile by Sainsburys and Carphone Warehouse.

Vodafone quickly denied those claims, which were made in TalkTalk’s submission to the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) about the potential merger of BT and EE.

SIM only plans from £5 per month

Founded in 2007 as an online-only mobile retailer, Talkmobile offers contract price plans from £7 per month and SIM-only plans from £5 per month in a choice of Small, Medium or Large. Both contract and SIM-only plans include a data allowance, with extra data subject to a charge of 10p per MB.

Ofcom’s consumer complaints figures published in July revealed Talkmobile was the second-most complained about mobile provider, after Vodafone.

Earlier this year, Cable.co.uk heard from several Talkmobile customers who had received excessively high bills for data they claimed they hadn’t used. One customer in particular had to pay over £180 on a capped £50 tariff.

Carphone Warehouse, which provides customer support for Talkmobile, refused to comment on the complaints.
