The best tablet deals you can get from O2 this Christmas

Tuesday, December 12th 2017 by Oprah Flash

When we dreamed of a white Christmas, the current weather conditions are not what we had in mind.

Pretty though it may be, if you live anywhere north of the M25 you have probably had to trudge through 10 inches of snow this week, so while you’re snowed in at home now may be a good time to shop around for a good deal on a tablet.

Whether you’re Team Apple or Android Army, O2 has a range of tablets to suit everyone’s needs this Christmas.

Starting off the proceedings is the family-friendly Alcatel Pixi 3 8 inch.

Alcatel Family Tablet Bundle - perfect for kids

A great tablet to keep kids occupied

This tablet is straightforward and simple to use so would be a good choice if you’re buying it for younger children to play games on or to download educational apps onto.

With an 8-inch screen the Android tablet comes with 8GB of internal storage, a 5MP rear camera and battery life up to 30 hours.

Included in the tablet bundle is a two-year subscription to the Azoomee app which provides family friendly content for kids to use. There are a range of shows included within the app as well as games and audiobooks.

The Alcatel Family Tablet Bundle also comes with a child-friendly case and screen protector.

For £11 a month with nothing to pay upfront you can get a hold of the Alcatel Family Tablet Bundle this Christmas. This tariff gives you 500MB with 100 texts over a 24-month plan.

This isn’t much data to use but if you and your family will primarily use this tablet at home you can connect to your wi-fi and get the full benefits of the device.

If you do plan on using the tablet on the go and want more data to play with, you can get 40GB with the £27 a month tariff instead of O2’s usual 20GB. This double data deal is only available until Wednesday 20 December so you have just over a week before you miss out.

Up until Wednesday 3 January 2018, O2 is hosting a Popcorn Pass promotion, which is also included with the Alcatel Family Tablet Bundle. A Popcorn Pass membership gives you discounts up to 40% on cinema tickets for 24 months when you sign up for a pay monthly contract.

If you’d prefer to pay the full cost of the device upfront and just have a pay monthly Airtime plan from O2, the upfront cost is £120 then £6 a month for 500MB or £22 a month for 20GB.

Apple iPad 9.7 - better for grown ups

O2 is offering the Apple iPad from £31 a month with 2GB data

The iPad offers you more productivity tools than the Alcatel Pixi 3 8 so is better suited to grown-ups. You can use the device to draft documents, send emails and put together presentations but you can also do the fun activities with the family this Christmas like make video calls, take pictures and play games.

It packs a 9.7 inch Retina display, 10 hour battery life and an 8MP front camera. The 64-bit A9 chip means the device runs quickly and smoothly allowing you to easily switch between apps without the frustrating wait for them to load.

It runs on Apple’s latest operating system and you can sync it to your iPhone or iMac so you can carry out an activity on one device and finish it on another without losing any data as it’s all backed up on the iCloud.

The iPad boasting 32GB of storage with wi-fi and cellular (takes a SIM) capabilities the RRP is £469.

With just under a tenner (£9.99) to pay upfront tariffs for the Apple iPad 9.7 start at £31 a month. Included in this you’ll get 2GB of data and 100 texts. This will be just enough to send emails and social media messages.

If you’ll be sending large proposals or multimedia content on the go, O2 is offering a double data deal of 40GB for £42 a month. You’ll also get 100 texts and will pay £9.99 upfront. This price lasts up until Wednesday 20 December after which, it goes back down to a 20GB data allowance.

To buy the Apple iPad 9.7 outright from 02 with a 24-month Airtime plan you’ll have to cough up £489.99 upfront then £11 a month for 2GB of data or £22 a month for 20GB of data.

Samsung Galaxy Tab A 2016 10.1 - great for whole family

O2 is offering the Samsung Galaxy Tab A from £16 a month with 2GB data

The Samsung Galaxy Tab A has the best of both worlds. You get some productivity tools on a par with what you’d get with the Apple iPad but it’s also simple and straightforward to use so your kids will like it too.

Like most of Samsung’s devices this tablet runs on Android’s operating system. This means you’ll get easy to navigate functionality with access to hundreds of thousands of apps on the Google Play Store.

The device has a 10.1 inch screen and comes with 16GB of internal storage, and a 8MP rear camera.

Much like the Alcatel Pixi 3 8 mentioned above, the Samsung Galaxy Tab A has an app purposely designed to keep kids safe while they are using the device. It’s called Kids Mode 4.0 and keeps the little ones entertained with games, a kids' camera and 3D characters. You have the control over the app and can set limits on how long they play and what they view.

On O2’s cheapest plan the Samsung Galaxy Tab A will cost you £16 a month with nothing to pay upfront. In return you get 500MB of data with 100 texts. As we said before this isn’t a lot of data to play with so it may not be the best plan for you if you’re always on the go.

The double data deal applies to this device too so you’ll get 40GB for the price of 20GB at £32 a month with nothing to pay upfront. Just like the other devices this deal only lasts up until Wednesday 20 December, leaving you just over a week to shop around and make your mind up.

If that seems like a bit too much to pay out each month and you do not need too much data the 2GB with 100 texts is £19 a month.

The prices of the plans for this device have all be reduced by £2 in O2’s Christmas deal. After next Wednesday (20 December), the prices will go back up. If this is the device for you and you opt for a pay-monthly plan, you get the 24-month Cinema Pass Membership as a bonus.

Samsung Galaxy Book 10.6 - a workaholic’s heaven

The Samsung Galaxy Book combines elements of a tablet with a laptop

If you know you’ll find it hard to leave the office this Christmas but still want some festive fun the Samsung Galaxy Book is a happy medium.

It has the convenient portability of a tablet mixed in with productivity of a laptop. It comes with a keyboard and operates on Windows 10, so it's perfect for working on the go. For added functionality it also comes with the S Pen so you can make handwritten notes.

If you choose a plan higher than 2GB you get a 12-month subscription to Microsoft Office 365 Personal which includes the vital programs like Microsoft Word, Microsoft Powerpoint, Skype and Outlook.

Just like a mini laptop the Samsung Galaxy Book has 4GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage. The screen is 10.6 inches and it comes with a 5MP front camera.

If you pay £39.00 upfront then £40 a month over a two-year contract you’ll get the device along with 2GB of data and 100 texts.

For the double data deal that O2 is currently offering you’ll get 40GB of data and 100 texts each month when you pay £51 a month and £39.99 upfront.

To pay for the device in full its £740 upfront then £11 a month for a 2GB Airtime Plan over a two-year contract or £22 a month for a 20GB Airtime plan.
