Three adds Snapchat to its Go Binge feature
Fancy some unlimited data exclusively for Snapchat? Three has got your back as, today (26 April) the provider has announced it has added Snapchat to its Go Binge feature.
Alongside Netflix, Apple Music, Deezer and Soundcloud, if you’re a Three customer you can use the social media app infinitely without ever dipping into your data allowance. Win Win situation for everyone.
In a toast to the new addition, Three has created Puggerfly, the world’s first augmented reality (AR) Snapchat pet. You’re already used to seeing a half-sloth half-dolphin character and a half-giraffe half-flamingo but the latest addition to the Three family is, as the name suggests, a half-pug half-butterfly. Three says “the adorable, squishy faced, purple-winged pug, embodies all things social and fun”.
Shadi Halliwell, chief marketing officer at Three UK, said: “We have worked in partnership with Snapchat to introduce the world to Puggerfly, who represents the powerful freedom you can experience through our Go Binge offering where data has no limits.
"You can literally go snap and express yourself to your heart’s content as you nurture puppyfly into Puggerfly. We are giving the UK a taste of the freedom and fun that our customers enjoy all the time on Three.”
Snapchat's first ever AR pet
Puggerfly is Snapchat’s first ever storytelling lens. You can play with the AR Pet by feeding it treats, play ball and watch it twerk to music. Think of it a hybrid of Pokemon Go and the old school Tamagotchi game.
The Puggerfly lens launches today and is available to all Snapchat users - not just Three customers - for a week. After this, keep an eye out for Snapcodes that Three will post on its advertising and media campaigns.
If you’re new to Three, Snapchat will be available on the Go Binge feature that comes with Advanced Plan offering 12GB of data or more. A SIM-only deal with 12GB of data and all you can eat minutes is £15 a month. Existing customers on an Advanced Plan can start snapping straight away.
First launched in 2011, Snapchat now has 12 million UK daily active users. We started to worry about its staying power when competing social media sites such as Instagram and WhatsApp introduced Stories/Status to their services. Snapchat took a further hit when it completely revamped its interface earlier this year, and it proved to be highly unpopular with users. Celebrities even took to Twitter to express their disappoint in the Snapchat’s new look with Kylie Jenner’s tweet leading to a drastic drop in the stock market.
Group video chat and AR games
However, we’re confident that Snapchat has pulled it back from that ugly bout of bad decisions and the new AR features and Go Binge are both innovative ways of doing so. This is not the only new development that Snapchat has released. At the start of the month, it rolled out group video chat and yesterday introduced another gaming feature, Snappables. It allows you to to play AR games controlled by your facial expressions.
Claire Valoti, vice president of international sales at Snapchat, said: “Millions of people play with augmented reality every day on Snapchat and we think they’ll adore Puggerfly.
"Each day they’ll find a new Lens in the carousel that day-by-day builds their relationship with their new AR pet over the course of a week. It’s the first time a brand has used multiple Lenses in this way to tell a character-driven story and we think it’s very powerful.”
