Three and Razer to develop mobile tariffs for gamers

Three is to develop mobile tariffs and devices specifically designed for gamers as part of a collaboration with lifestyle brand Razer.

The two companies will focus on co-branding “to reach out to the gaming community and youth audience” according to a statement.

Three will also distribute Razer’s gaming hardware, software and accessories as well as its virtual currency Razer zGold.

Susan Buttsworth, CEO of Three’s international opportunities development division, said: “The Three group has always embraced developing trends in the mobile sector, and mobile gaming and eSports are definitely on the rise.

“Three’s partnership with Razer underscores our commitment to customers who are casual fans as well as those who are avid gamers of mobile eSports.”

NewZoo’s global games market report 2015 estimated that mobile gamers contributed 27bn USD a year to the global gaming market and that the total number of gamers would reach 2.5bn by 2018.

Three said 2.3m of Razer’s registered users live within its global footprint and stores in Denmark already stock Razer accessories.

Min-Liang Tan, co-founder and CEO of Razer, said: “We are incredibly excited about joining forces with the Three group to bring our cutting-edge gamer lifestyle to their audiences.

“From co-branding to mobile and virtual currencies – we’re excited to work with the Three group to reach out to the youth in their markets.”

Roaming charges

Last week, Three announced that two new destinations would be covered by its Feel at Home service from 15 June.

Customers will soon be able to use their monthly data, minutes and texts in Singapore and Brazil as well as 58 other countries.

CEO Dave Dyson said: “We are committed to unlocking unfair roaming charges for British travellers, not just in the EU but across the world.

“We are doing this proactively for the benefit of our customers and not because regulators are forcing us to do it.

“That’s what sets us apart and this approach means we will always be ahead of our competitors when it comes to fair overseas roaming.”
