Three launches 'great SIM offers' including 30GB for £20 deal

Friday, February 2nd 2018 by Phil Wilkinson-Jones

Three has gone a bit data-crazy with its latest SIM deals, offering some generous monthly allowances for what have to be described as pretty reasonable prices.

The provider is pushing three deals in particular, the most eye-catching of which is 30GB for £20 a month.

Like the majority of Three’s plans it comes with unlimited or ‘all-you-can-eat’ minutes and texts, and as it’s an Advanced Plan (as opposed to an Essential Plan) you get additional benefits – a 30GB personal hotspot, Feel At Home Around the World and Go Binge.

Feel At Home Around the World gives you the freedom to use your allowance in 71 destinations around the world, while Go Binge provides a separate, unlimited data allowance specifically for Netflix, SoundCloud, Deezer, Apple Music and TV Player.

Armed with the ability to use those apps data-free, a lot of people would struggle to use anywhere near 30GB in a month, especially if your phone is connected to wifi most of the time, so this plan would probably suit gamers and social media addicts who are always out and about.

If that’s you, the price of this deal does make it attractive – especially when you consider what else is out there.

30GB for £41.99 a month on EE

A 30GB SIM deal from EE will cost you more than double the amount Three is charging, at £41.99 a month. You do get access to the BT Sport app thrown in for free, but there’s no equivalent to Go Binge.

There’s a reasonable offer on from Virgin Mobile at the moment, too – 20GB for £25 – but it’s for less data than Three is offering and will cost more each month. The added perk with Virgin plans is data-free messaging on WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger and Twitter.

If all that seems like too much data to be messing around with, you can get 12GB from Three for £15 a month and get all the same extras as with the 30GB deal as this is another Advanced Plan.

Or pay just £10 a month and get 4GB of data, which is likely to be enough for a lot of people, although this is an Essential Plan we’re talking about so doesn’t come with the same benefits as the others.

All of these deals come with 12-month contracts, which is pretty much standard. Although if you don’t want to get tied down for a year, Three’s latest venture Smarty has some deals it may be worth you looking at.

Smarty’s Medium plan also offers 4GB of data and unlimited calls and texts for £10, but is on a rolling monthly contract so you can leave whenever you like, plus you get a discount on your next bill if you’ve got any unused data left over.

The Small plan from Smarty gives you 2GB for £7.50 and Large gets you 8GB for £15.

Smarty’s offering is a bit basic at the moment, because it’s so new – you can’t call abroad or call premium numbers, for example – but it’s certainly an interesting option and will even let you tether and hot-spot all of your data, if that’s what you want to do.
