Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan will premiere on Amazon Prime in August 2018
The latest Amazon Original show, Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, will debut on Amazon Prime on 31 August.
The eponymous lead character has appeared in several of Clancy’s novels and their film adaptations, including The Hunt for Red October, Patriot Games and The Sum of All Fears, played by Hollywood luminaries including Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford and Ben Affleck. Most recently, Chris Pine portrayed the character in Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit.
In these various works, Ryan has held several positions – including US President – but the Amazon show focuses on his humble beginnings as a CIA analyst.
In the Amazon show, John Krasinski is the fifth actor to play Ryan, who is catapulted from his desk job into dangerous situations across Europe and the Middle East, taking on a terrorist intent on wreaking havoc against the United States and its allies. Other cast members include Abbie Cornish and Wendell Pierce.
Amazon has released a number of teasers for the much-anticipated series, which it first picked up way back in 2015, and even created a Superbowl TV commercial.
Advertising during the broadcast of the annual American football extravaganza is famously expensive and this is the first time Amazon has ever done this for one of its original shows, demonstrating the budget and support it has given the project. And if you’re not already convinced, Transformers director Michael Bay is on board as an executive producer.
Production finished late last year and 10 sixty-minute episodes are expected to arrive when it goes live on Amazon Prime Video. Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan is included in all Amazon Prime subscriptions, which also give users access to next-day delivery, music streaming, digital book libraries and a wealth of video content, including movies and TV shows.
Other Amazon Originals include American Gods, The Man in the High Castle, The Vikings and The Grand Tour, presented by Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May. A third series of that show is expected to premiere later this year.
You can get Amazon Prime Video for £5.99 a month. This subscription gives you access to the full video catalogue, but doesn’t include other services such as one-day delivery, cloud storage and music. For this, you need a Prime subscription which is £7.99 a month or £79 for 12 months. In any case, you get a 30-day free trial to see what the fuss is all about.
Prime Video can be watched on your laptop, smartphone or tablet as well as through your games console, smart TV or streaming device.
