UK prepares for digital TV retune

Monday, September 28th 2009 by Cable.co.uk

People across the UK have been urged to retune their digital TV set-top boxes at the end of this month.

Digital TV viewers across the UK are being reminded to retune their set-top boxes later this week.

It has been announced that changes to the service are being introduced from September 30th, meaning people need to refresh the channel list on their Freeview or BT Vision equipment after that date.

According to Freeview, the amendments will increase coverage of Five, while a new channel called Quest will be available for the first time.

Ilse Howling, managing director of Freeview, said: "These are significant and necessary changes which will immediately bring Freeview viewers new channels, introduce new homes to existing channels and prepare the platform for the future availability of Freeview HD."

Details about the retune have come after pay TV provider Virgin Media confirmed that it would start hosting Living HD on its broadcasting platform from October 6th.
