Upcoming Sky Cinema original Final Score is 'Die Hard in a football stadium'
A British action film described as ‘Die Hard in a football stadium’ will be the next Sky Cinema original to arrive in cinemas and on Sky TV at the same time.
Final Score stars Guardians of the Galaxy’s Dave Bautista as Michael Knox, an ex-soldier who has to use all his military skills to save 35,000 people at a football match when the entire crowd is held hostage by armed kidnappers demanding a ransom.
It was filmed on location at the Boleyn Ground, the former home of West Ham United, and although we don’t know exactly when it will be released, Sky has confirmed that like other Sky Cinema originals it will be available to watch on Sky Cinema the same day as its UK cinema release.
Pierce Brosnan, Ray Stevenson and Martyn Ford also star in the movie, which is directed by British director Scott Mann and was written by Jonathan Frank and brothers David T Lynch and Keith Lynch.
Mann is perhaps best known for the 2015 movie Heist, which also starred Bautista alongside Robert De Niro and Jeffrey Dean Morgan, while this is the first feature film written by the brothers Lynch, who in 2016 were named among the top 100 new writers in Hollywood.
A couple of years ago, @keithlynch & I wrote a fun action film. It stars the awesome @DaveBautista & @PierceBrosnan and will be in cinemas and on Sky in the UK this year. Which after working half our lives to make it in the industry is actually pretty bloody great. #FinalScore https://t.co/5aGJ7sWd6Z— David T. Lynch (@davidtlynch) May 31, 2018
Right at the start of the year Sky signalled its intentions to rival Netflix and Amazon with the launch of Sky Cinema Original Films. These aren’t in-house productions just yet, instead Sky is acquiring exclusive rights, commissioning original productions and entering co-financing deals.
Promising at least half a dozen movies this year, Sky kicked off with Monster Family, an animated comedy featuring the vocal talents of Nick Frost, Emily Watson and Jessica Brown Findlay.
Next came action thriller Hurricane Heist, about a plot to break into a US Treasury facility during a bout of extreme weather. It stars Maggie Grace as the only Treasurer not lost to the hurricane and Toby Kebbell as a stormchaser.
Most recently, Sky Cinema released Anon, starring Clive Owen and Amanda Seyfried, a thriller set in a near-future in which everyone’s data is available to everyone else via sinister electronic implants.
