Virgin Media brings Five HD to digital TV subscribers

Tuesday, July 13th 2010 by Cable.co.uk

Virgin Media has followed in the footsteps of Sky by announcing the addition of the Five HD channel to its digital TV service.

Subscribers to Virgin Media's digital TV packages now have access to a high definition (HD) version of Five, it has been announced.

The bundle provider, which also offers fibre optic cable broadband and home phone services, has revealed that the channel will be available to 3.7 million of its customers for no extra monthly charge.

Virgin Media's HD services now include 13 channels, while a further 20 are expected to be added later this summer.

Cindy Rose, executive director of digital entertainment at Virgin Media, said Five offers "innovative schedules" featuring top US content and homegrown shows.

She added: "Our customers will now be able to enjoy the HD channels of every national terrestrial broadcaster as well as a rapidly growing roster from other broadcasters so we're delighted to give our customers Five, in HD."

Virgin Media also recently outlined that it is offering Sky's premium sports and movie channels to its customers through a range of deals.
