Virgin Media channel to broadcast Spartacus

Tuesday, March 9th 2010 by Cable.co.uk

Digital TV provider Virgin Media's Bravo channel is to broadcast the first two series of Spartacus: Blood and Sand.

Broadband provider Virgin Media has announced that its Bravo digital TV channel is set to broadcast US drama Spartacus: Blood and Sand.

The channel has acquired the rights to the first two series of the Sam Raimi-produced drama, which is shown on the Starz channel in the US and will debut in the UK in the summer.

Lucy Lawless and Andy Whitfield star in the show, which is based on the story of a slave uprising during the times of the Roman Empire.

Amy Barham, Virgin Media's head of acquisitions, said the firm was clear that Spartacus would "put Bravo on the map in its 25th anniversary year".

She added: "Provocative, technically brilliant and brutal, we're positive Spartacus will live up to the hype and controversy."

Virgin Media recently confirmed that Channel 4 is to exclusively launch its new Film4 HD channel on its digital TV service in the summer.
