Virgin Media 'could offer football in digital TV bundles'

Wednesday, March 17th 2010 by Cable.co.uk

Football coverage could be included in Virgin Media's digital TV bundles in the near future, it has been suggested.

Fibre optic broadband provider Virgin Media could add football coverage to its digital TV packages in the coming months, according to reports.

City AM has claimed that the move could come in the aftermath of an anticipated Ofcom review, which is expected to call on Sky to cut the price of its basic sports package by almost £5.

It is thought such a move would allow both BT and Virgin Media to include the cost within its existing packages.

Talking to the website, a spokesman for Virgin Media said: "We are considering a number of options but we will have to wait until the announcement of the results of the Ofcom investigation."

In the past week, Virgin Media has announced that ITV1 HD and Sci Fi HD will be available on its digital TV service in the coming weeks.

The company is also launching a new set-top box, which is available to new and exsiting customers for a one-off fee of £49.
