Virgin Media launches new entertainment app for pre-schoolers

Wednesday, August 30th 2017 by Phil Wilkinson-Jones

Virgin Media has launched a new entertainment app aimed at pre-school children.

Virgin TV Kids features more than 2,000 episodes of shows including Bob the Builder, Mike the Knight, In the Night Garden, Thomas & Friends, Paw Patrol and Peppa Pig.

There are also books to read with adults or older siblings, such as Monsters Love Underpants, Princess Evie’s Ponies and Dogs Don’t Do Ballet, and games to play including Playful Kitty, Bubble Gems, Kids Tangram and Doctor Teeth.

TV shows can be downloaded so kids can watch them offline and parents are able to restrict streaming to wi-fi connections only, saving on data usage.

The app, which Virgin says is for children aged three to seven, is free from advertising and there are no in-app purchases.

It even has a button designed especially for toddlers that plays the same show five times on repeat.

David Bouchier, chief entertainment officer at Virgin Media, said: “Our Virgin TV Kids app is a safe and fun space designed exclusively for pre-schoolers, Virgin TV’s youngest customers.

“Parents and carers can let their children explore the best children’s TV shows from all their favourite channels such as Disney, Nick Jr, Boomerang and more, as well as a wide range of books and games safe in the knowledge that kids can never be exposed to age inappropriate or harmful content.

“Our kids app has not only the UK’s best selection of pre-school entertainment, but it comes with added peace of mind for parents – an environment free from ads and other commercial influences.

“Best of all it comes at no extra cost to Virgin TV customers who subscribe to our kids channels.”

The app is available for free for all Virgin TV customers on the Fun or Full House bundles.

Earlier this month, TalkTalk launched a new TV remote designed specifically for children.

One press of the Kids Remote locks young viewers into TalkTalk’s new Kids Zone, where they can scroll through and select on-demand episodes of favourites including Paw Patrol, Peppa Pig and PJ Masks.

Adults can get out of the Kids Zone by entering a code using the master remote.
