Virgin Media mobile deal offers free TellyTablet with selected Samsung phones

It’s a standard argument in most households. Someone wants to watch Grey’s Anatomy, but the football is on at the same time. Someone will miss out or be forced to avoid spoilers and watch their programme later.

But Virgin Media thinks it has the secret to home harmony with its new TellyTablet. The device is intended to give families the opportunity to watch two programmes at once via without the need to take out a multi-room subscription or buy a brand-new television.

And it’s giving the tablet away for free when you take out a phone contract with selected Samsung Galaxy devices.

The TellyTablet boasts a 14-inch HD screen and four built-in speakers in a bid to replicate the television experience. It comes with a kickstand, so you can get the right viewing angle for watching in bed or in the kitchen and links to Virgin TV via the Virgin TV Go application.

The Virgin TV Go app streams up to 110 live channels and a range of box sets, depending on your TV subscription. What’s more, you can manage TV recordings on the main box.

The primary purpose of the TellyTablet is of course video, but it’s also a fully functioning Android tablet, so you can access social media applications and other services such as Netflix from the Google Play store.

Hours of entertainment

The TellyTablet is powered by a Quad-core processor and has 32GB of built-in storage, although this can be supplemented via a MicroSD slot. It has two USB ports and is charged via a standard MicroUSB cable.

It promises eight hours of entertainment from a single charge and lasts up to 72 hours on standby.

The TellyTablet costs £249.99, but if you take out a 24 or 36-month mobile contract and a black or grey Samsung Galaxy S8 from £32 a month, you can get it absolutely free. This also applies to the black or gold variants of the Samsung Galaxy J3, which starts at £22 a month.

Virgin Media is the country’s largest cable provider and its landline, broadband and television services available to 15 million homes across the UK.

With any broadband deal, Virgin Media will supply you with its latest router, the Hub 3.0, which promises faster speeds, stronger signal and enhanced security. This means your wi-fi network can make the most of the high bandwidth connection coming into your home and powering your new tablet.

As for TV, the ‘Player’ bundle is an upgrade on Freeview, delivering all the main free to air channels and catch up tv services over the new Virgin V6 box. It costs £30 a month for 12 months, before rising to £48 in 12 months' time and also includes 50Mbps broadband.

The ‘Mix’ bundle offers everything included with ‘Player’ as well as 100Mbps broadband and more channels, such as Sky 1, MTV and Sky Sports News. It will set you back £45 a month before rising to £55 in a year.

Naturally, you can add Sky Sports and Sky Cinema for an additional fee.
