Virgin Media now available to thousands of homes in Margate and Ramsgate

Virgin Media has made its broadband and TV services available to 4,900 premises in Margate and Ramsgate.

Homes and businesses in Birchington, Garlinge, Newington, Northwood and Westgate on sea can now sign up to ultrafast broadband speeds up to 350Mbps.

Virgin said the average download speed across the Thanet local authority area is 19.3Mbps, so customers choosing Virgin’s top package will be enjoying speeds 18 times faster than the local average.

Not everyone needs speeds of 350Mbps, of course, and Virgin also has three lower packages offering average speeds of 54Mbps, 108Mbps and 213Mbps respectively. For many, simply the availability of a provider that doesn’t use the same network and BT and Sky will be welcomed.

'Greater speeds'

Cormac Connolly, regional director at Virgin Media, said: “We are delighted that local residents and businesses across Margate and Ramsgate can now start to benefit from the boost our ultrafast broadband will give them.

“Giving them greater speeds will enable them to do the things they need to do and love doing more quickly and more easily.”

As well as Virgin’s broadband services, residents in Margate and Ramsgate can now also access Virgin TV, which offers up to 260 channels, box sets, catch up TV and the ability to watch Netflix, Sky Sports and BT Sport all through the 4K-ready V6 box.

Earlier this year, Virgin offered a free upgrade to the V6 for any customers who were still using the old TiVO set top box.

The V6 is a smaller and faster piece of kit than the old TiVO box and offers twice the amount of storage. It also allows you to record six channels at a time while watching a recording or something from a streaming or catch-up service like Netflix or iPlayer.

You have to be a Virgin broadband customer in order to get the free upgrade, which you can request through your online account.
