Virgin Media partner unveils new digital TV boxes

Wednesday, March 3rd 2010 by Cable.co.uk

TiVo, the digital TV partner of Virgin Media, has hinted at what the future of their agreement could hold for subscribers.

Virgin Media's digital TV subscribers have been given a hint of what they can expect to see from the company's partnership with TiVo.

The pair originally agreed a strategic partnership which will see TiVo develop a next generation TV platform for Virgin Media at the end of last year.

However, TiVo has suggested what they could create through the deal with the launch of its new Premiere and Premiere XL boxes in the US.

The internet-connected systems allow users to locate and view a range of content, from digital TV channels to videos on YouTube and information about their favourite actors and films.

Tom Rogers, president and chief executive officer of TiVo, said: "Premiere is your new cable box, it's your movie box, it's your web box, and music box; it's the one box that can give you access to almost anything you want, whenever you want it."

News of the digital TV platform has come after Virgin Media revealed it is expanding its content by adding kids channel Cartoonito to its broadcast service in April.
