Virgin Media set to launch Comedy Central HD

Thursday, August 5th 2010 by Cable.co.uk

A high-definition version of Comedy Central will be available to Virgin Media subscribers in the near future.

Virgin Media is reportedly gearing up to launch a high-definition (HD) version of its existing Comedy Central channel.

Comedy Central HD was unveiled in the US back in January 2009 and is home to a whole host of original productions, including the likes of The Sarah Silverman Programme, Reno 911! and newer episodes of South Park.

Members of Digital Spy's V+HD forum noted that Virgin Media's channel guide for August shows Comedy Central HD as appearing on channel 133, with Comedy Central+1 moving to 134.

Although the channel is now listed, Virgin Media has yet to confirm when it will actually be launched, with a spokesperson from the broadcaster commenting: "Watch this space."

This has been a busy week for new HD channel announcements, with ITV also revealing that HD variants of ITV2, ITV3 and ITV4 will be released on Sky from this autumn.

Chief operating officer at Sky Mike Darcey described this as "great news" for Sky+HD subscribers.
