Virgin Media TiVo service receives 50,000 pre-registrations

Thursday, February 17th 2011 by Cable.co.uk

Chief executive Neil Berkett revealed the service has attracted significant consumer interest.

Virgin Media has already received thousands of pre-registrations for its combined TiVo cable TV and broadband platform.

The cable company's chief executive Neil Berkett told Dow Jones Newswires that 50,000 people have expressed their interest in signing up for the service.

A "soft" rollout of the technology is already underway and Mr Berkett revealed the commercial launch will take place during the second quarter of 2011.

After bringing the product to market, Virgin Media will promote it "more aggressively" in the second half of the year, he said.

Commenting in the broadcaster's results publication for the final three months of 2010, the exec added: "Our new TV service, powered by TiVo, will provide a real step change in home entertainment as customers benefit from the unique power of the Virgin Media network."

The news comes in the same week that TiVo announced it is withdrawing support for all of its Series1 digital video recorders in the UK.

These boxes will be reduced to limited or no functionality from June 1st.
