Virgin Media TiVo subscribers miss out on Mayweather v Ortiz fight
Some TiVo customers were unable to watch the pay-per-view fight live.
Virgin Media has issued an apology after a glitch with its TiVo next-generation TV service prevented customers from watching this weekend's WBC welterweight title fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr and Victor Ortiz.
Subscribers took to the cable company's official help and support forum to complain about the issue, which meant viewers were unable to watch live coverage of the pay-per-view (PPV) contest on Saturday night (September 17th 2011).
Responding to the protests, a Virgin Media forum team member told fans to await news about potential refunds and watch the replay of the fight the following morning.
A later post from Stephen Featham, the broadcaster's director of technical operations for digital entertainment, stated all affected customers will automatically be reimbursed.
"I'd like to apologise to the TiVo customers who couldn't view the PPV boxing event overnight. An investigation is underway to find out what went wrong and make sure it doesn't happen again," he explained.
News of the latest glitch comes shortly after a Virgin Media staffer revealed the company is looking to increase its efforts to detect errors with the TiVo electronic programme guide.
