Vodafone: Call+ will change the way mobile calls are made

Vodafone has launched a new service it says will improve the experience of making calls on your mobile phone.

The provider, announcing the launch of Vodafone Call+, said almost everything about the way mobile phones are used has changed – other than making calls.

“You make a call and hope that the person at the other end picks up, without any knowledge of why you’re calling or how important the call might be,” it said in a statement.

Vodafone’s attempt to change this, Call+, is available to download as a free app on the Google Play store.

It is also integrated into the calling functions of selected handsets, including the Sony Xperia Z3 and Z3 Compact, as part of a software update, and on the Sony Z5 and Z5 Compact from launch.

Call+ gives users features for use before, during and after phone calls.

Before they make a call, users can send information about why they are calling, showing an ‘importance level’, location and picture.

During calls, they are able to share pictures, location or switch to video call – all within the Call+ app.

And after the call, everything shared before or during is available to both parties on an interactive call log.

If the call goes unanswered, people can either leave a note or record a voice message that will be incorporated into the recipient’s missed call alert.

The launch of Call+ follows the introduction of wi-fi calling on Vodafone’s network last month.

Wi-fi calling allows customers to make and receive calls when they do not have a mobile signal – as long as they are connected to wi-fi.

'Easy to use'

The service is free and is available to any pay monthly customer on a Vodafone Red bundle with a compatible handset.

Vodafone UK consumer director Cindy Rose said: “Our wi-fi calling service allows customers to talk to loved ones, friends and colleagues for longer and in many more places. It is easy to use and doesn’t cost a penny more.

“It works wherever a customer is connected to wi-fi – in a café, at home or the office – and automatically connects just like a normal call when a mobile signal is weak or non-existent.

“Vodafone wi-fi calling is a great match for Vodafone Broadband, our new superfast home broadband offering.

“Its special beam-forming technology ensures that a strong signal follows your phone wherever you take it around your home.

“Vodafone wi-fi calling is one of a series of future voice services we are launching for our customers over the next few months.”
