Vodafone confirms second price hike in two months
Vodafone customers are facing a second price increase in two months.
The mobile operator has confirmed that out-of-contract pay monthly customers will see between 50p and £3.50 added to their bill.
It comes just weeks after Vodafone announced a 3.2% increase based on an adjustment to the retail price index (RPI), a measure of the UK’s general rate of inflation.
But while the annual ‘price adjustment’ in line with inflation was expected, the latest hike came out of the blue with customers being informed by text this week.
Some on Twitter suggested it may be a price increase too many.
Vodafone text me today to put my bill up by £3 a month, sky are offering to halve my bill and Vodafone won't answer the phone. Bye bye.— S.Turner (@STurner2011) April 28, 2017
A Vodafone UK spokesperson said: “We can confirm that some pay monthly customers, who are out of contract, will see an increase of between 50p and £3.50 per month depending on their price plan.
“They can move at any time to one of our new plans which give them unlimited texts, more or unlimited calls, far more data as well as our new roaming offers. All they need to do is call us on 191 or visit our website.”
Earlier this month, Vodafone announced it was dropping roaming charges in 40 European countries – includig holiday hotspots outside of the EU such as Switzerland, Turkey and the Channel Islands.
In a further 60 ‘roam-further’ destinations including the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, customers can use their phone as they would at home for an additional £5 per day.
As part of a wider ‘customer campaign’, Vodafone has today introduced flexible upgrades so customers can trade in their phone and upgrade it six months into their contract and launched TOBi – an artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot offering an online web chat service.
