There are no set-up fees to pay with Vodafone's latest broadband deals

Thursday, November 9th 2017 by Oprah Flash

Vodafone is offering you the chance to sign up to a broadband package without the fuss of upfront fees.

The Unlimited Standard Broadband 17, Unlimited Fibre 38 and Unlimited Fibre 76 packages are all available with free activation.

Unlimited Standard Broadband 17 costs £25 a month for download speeds up to 17Mbps and upload speeds of 2Mbps with unlimited usage. There is an 18-month minimum term agreement.

If this is your first time with Vodafone you’ll have to cough up £49 for an Ultra-smart Vodafone Connect router. Its £24 if you’re already a customer.

With this package you may also have to pay £30 for a new home phone line or to change your number.

For smaller households a 17Mbps package is sufficient, as it allows you to browse the web, shop and stream content.

Vodafone’s Unlimited Fibre 38 plan is the same monthly price as the 17Mbps package, £25. After signing up you’ll be entered into an 18-month contract.

You’ll get up to 38Mbps download speeds and 10Mbps upload speeds with unlimited usage. Over the course of the first year you’ll spend £300 for your broadband.

If there are more than two people at home using various devices at the same time, a fibre broadband connection is a wise choice. You can still chat on social media, shop and stream music or films just a little faster.

Vodafone’s fastest package is the Unlimited Fibre 76 deal , which costs £30 a month for download speeds up to 78Mbps and upload speeds of 20Mbps.

Bigger households of five or more would be better off with download speeds up to 76Mbps. This will allow you all to stream at the same time from different devices or play games uninterrupted by buffering.

For the fibre broadband packages (38Mbps and 76Mbps) the Ultra-smart Vodafone Connect router is free of charge.

No setup fees with the 17Mbps, 38Mbps and 76Mbps braodband plans

Can I make calls with these packages?

Most broadband packages will give you the ability to make calls but on a pay as you go basis.

If you get carried away chatting to your mates for a while this can add a significant cost to your monthly bill.

After the initial call connection charge of 19p you’ll pay 11.50p a minute for calls to a UK landline with Vodafone. Its 13p a minute for calls to mobiles.

To add inclusive evening and weekend calls to your broadband package it’s an extra £4 a month. For anytime inclusive calls to UK landlines and mobiles its £8 a month.

If you don’t currently have an Openreach (you may know it as BT Openreach) phoneline you’ll have to pay an additional £60 cost to have one set up by Vodafone.

Is it hard to switch?

If you’re ready to switch, Vodafone says it will contact your current provider for you unless you're with Virgin Media who uses a different type of cabling system to provide an internet connection.

In this case Vodafone has drafted a letter template for you to use when asking Virgin Media to transfer your service.

Be sure to check the terms of your current contract before you decide to switch as you may incur an early termination penalty charge.

Fibre broadband setup fees

Vodafone’s basic broadband package is not the best value for money and you may end up paying more than you expect with the additional router fee.

However the fibre broadband monthly prices are in line with a few competitors including Origin and Plusnet.

Origin also has no setup fees and charges £25.99 a month for its Unlimited Fibre Broadband package with up to 38Mbps download speeds.

Plusnet’s Unlimited Fibre plan with up to 38Mbps is £24.99 a month. It's 1p less than Vodafone’s offering but you’ll have to pay a £15 setup fee so you’ll end up paying more over the course of the first year. Plusnet’s package is on a 12-month contract.

For speeds up to 76Mbps TalkTalk has waived setup fees and charges £30 a month over 18 months.

Origin’s Unlimited Fibre Max Broadband has no setup fee and will cost £29.99 a month for 76Mbps speeds over 18 months.
