Vodafone launches new broadband and home phone services
Vodafone has launched new broadband and home phone services for its UK customers.
The new service, called Vodafone Connect, will offer broadband speeds up to 76Mbps and will initially be available to existing Vodafone mobile customers in Manchester, Berkshire and parts of Hampshire and Surrey.
It will be rolled out to Essex, Hertfordshire and Yorkshire “in the next few weeks” and across the UK later in the summer.
A range of packages will offer customers the choice of standard broadband delivering up to 17Mbps, or fibre broadband connections offering 38Mbps or 76Mbps.
Vodafone Connect will also come with a companion mobile app that promises greater control over devices in the home.
The app has a ‘Boost’ function that, combined with a ‘plug-and-play’ router, allows users to give any device connected to their home network preference over others, while ‘Beam’ sends a stronger wi-fi signal to compatible devices.
A ‘Family Time’ feature allows customers to manage and set time limits on when wi-fi is available and when it’s not, and ‘Guest Wi-Fi’ lets you easily control wi-fi access to guests.
'Satisfy their needs'
Jeroen Hoencamp, CEO of Vodafone UK, said: “This is a really exciting move for Vodafone in the UK as we move our business into a new phase.
“We’re looking forward to bringing our consumer customers the benefits of our experience in providing fixed and mobile services, both here in the UK and elsewhere around the world.”
He said a “significant investment” is creating hundreds of jobs over the next couple of years.
Vodafone Connect is expected to be offered to new customers later in the year, while the rollout of fibre optic broadband will create more than 400 new jobs in the south east of England and Glasgow.
Mr Hoencamp added: “We are looking forward to the year ahead, including our move into offering TV services, as one which will prove to be a step-change in our customers’ lives.”
Cindy Rose, consumer director at Vodafone UK said: “We wanted to start our journey into fibre optic broadband and home phone with an exclusive offer available only to existing Vodafone customers as our way of saying thank you for their loyalty.
“We know our customers depend on us to stay connected, and now we can satisfy their needs both at home and on the go.
“As the only operator in the UK which owns both a fixed and mobile network, we're in a great position to create innovative products and services that give our existing customers reasons to stay with us and new customers reasons to switch.”
Vodafone said its nationwide, fibre optic network already reaches exchanges which pass nearly 20m premises across the UK, with that figure rising to around 22m later in the summer.
