Amazon Prime Video is now available on Apple TV – here's how to get it

Thursday, December 7th 2017 by Oprah Flash

Apple TV fans may be happy to hear you can now download the Amazon Video Prime App onto your Apple TV 4K as well as the older generations of the Apple TV.

Using the digital media device you can now stream Amazon Prime Original series and movies and watch them on your TV.

This could be a sign that the long-standing feud between Apple and Amazon has finally come to an end. In 2015, Amazon famously stopped selling the Apple TV on its website claiming it created customer confusion.

The exact cause of the bad blood between the two companies has never been confirmed but many speculate the similarity between the Apple TV and Amazon Fire TV devices is the main reason.

At least for now it seems they have put the rivalry behind them.

Previously you could only play Prime Video on your Apple TV through a wireless connection to Airplay from an iPhone or iPad. It’s already possible to stream Netflix through Apple TV, as well as NOW TV and BBC iPlayer by downloading the apps.

Once you’ve downloaded the Amazon Prime Video app it will be relatively easy for you to get it up and running as you control the content you put on screen through the Apple TV App or Siri Remote.

The announcement comes just in time for the release of season 2 of The Grand Tour. There are a range of new shows coming to Amazon Prime Video to look forward to this month and over the course of next year.

You can now watch The Marvelous Mrs Maisel on Amazon Prime Video through Apple TV

Apple TV is a gadget, very similar to the Amazon Fire Stick or Google Chromecast, that connects to your TV and turns it a smart device. With this, you’ll be able to connect to your broadband through your TV and stream movies as well as view your picture and videos stored on your iCloud.

The newer Apple TV 4K was released in September and is a great accessory if you have a 4K HDR TV. You’ll get a more cinematic experience when watching your favourite shows with a crisper, brighter image.

30-Day Free Trial

If the new announcement has you thinking of signing up to Amazon Prime Video you can test it out with a free 30-day trial. If you decide you like it and want to keep the subscription you’ll pay £7.99 a month. The service has a range of TV Shows, movies and documentaries for you to stream such as The Walking Dead, Transparent and Peppa Pig.

You can watch Amazon Prime Video at home or on the go by downloading it onto your Android or Apple device. It also can be watched on a Amazon Fire TV, Fire TV Stick, and Fire tablets.

Having a Prime Membership will also give you access to Prime Music, let you buy concert tickets on Prime Live Events, have unlimited reading on a selection book through Prime Reading as well as unlimited One-Day Delivery on items purchased on Amazon.
