Virgin Media deals for existing customers

Want to add to or upgrade your existing Virgin Media package? Our guide will tell you everything you need to know about deals for existing customers. We’ll tell you how to add extra TV channels, upgrade to a faster broadband service, get better equipment and what will happen to your contract and bill.

Why upgrade?

There are many reasons why you might want to upgrade your existing Virgin Media account. Maybe your broadband isn’t fast enough to let you all do everything you want to, or maybe you want a second TV for the kids.

Whatever your reasons for wanting to increase or add to your cable services, there are plenty of Virgin Media deals for existing customers, and upgrading is usually a quick and easy process.

What are my upgrade options?

As an existing Virgin Media customer you can upgrade your package or add extra services whenever you like. Your options will depend upon what you have already, and in the case of wanting faster broadband, what’s available in your area.

TV upgrades

There are currently two core Virgin Media TV channel packs:

  • Mix TV comes with 150 channels
  • Full House TV comes with 245 channels and 50 in HD

When upgrading, it should take no more than 48 hours for the new channels to be added to your TV listings, and the increased charge will appear on your next bill. There is a minimum term of 30 days, and you won’t be be able to downgrade or upgrade further during this period.

If you didn't take a TV package when you originally joined Virgin, you’ll usually have to pay up to £20 to cover installation.

Can I add premium channels?

Yes. Virgin carries a range of premium channels including Sky Sports, Sky Cinema and ESPN, which can be added to any TV package or bundle. Once added, premium channels must be kept for a minimum of 30 days.

Sky Cinema

Sky Cinema comes with eleven channels and several hundred movies on demand. From kids to horror there is something for everyone. To watch it all in HD, you will have to pay an extra £7 per month. Sky Cinema comes on a rolling 30-day contract so you can cancel at any time.

Sports channels

Sky Sports comes with six channels and if you want to watch it all in HD, you can pay the extra £7 per month on top of the £31.75 monthly fee. Like Sky Cinema, Sky Sports comes on a rolling 30-day contract.

BT Sport is also available with Virgin Media. The monthly cost is £18.

Virgin also carries a small selection of specialist sport channels including MUTV, Box Nation and Racing UK. Each of these can be added to any TV package on a month-by-month basis.

Other premium channel options

In addition to movies and sports there are other premium-channel options that can help you build a TV package that better reflects your tastes and your needs. These include a range of kids, Asian and adult channels that can be added to any existing TV account on 30-day contracts.

Broadband

You can upgrade to a faster broadband package at any time, subject to local availability, or add broadband if you initially joined without it.

There are four speeds to choose from:

  • Up to 50Mbps
  • Up to 100Mbps
  • Up to 200Mbps
  • Up to 350Mbps

If you add broadband you must keep it for at least the stated minimum term of the contract. In the event of upgrading an existing broadband package, it is a requirement that you keep it for at least 30 days before being able to request any further changes to the service.

Inclusive calls

The monthly charge for any Virgin Media broadband and phone bundle includes the Talk Weekends package that gives you unlimited weekend calls to UK landlines and Virgin mobile phones from midnight on Friday to midnight on Sunday.

This can be can upgraded to Talk Evening & Weekends to add weekday calls from 7pm–7am from Monday to Friday, or Talk Unlimited to give you inclusive calls all day, every day.

New phone lines must be kept for at least 12 months, while upgraded calls plans must be kept for at least 30 days.

Six essential questions before you upgrade

  1. Which services do I want?
  2. Have I got the budget to cover them?
  3. Can I commit to the relevant minimum term?
  4. Will I have to pay for installation?
  5. Have I taken all charges into account, such as line rental?
  6. Are there any special offers running?

Can I upgrade my equipment?

Virgin now offers both the TiVo box (500GB and 1TB options) and the new V6 box. Your upgrade options will depend on your current package and what you want to upgrade to. A sales advisor will be able to help you with this.

Do I have to pay for installation?

Depending on the services being added, you may be charged installation at £20. Some upgrades such as adding channels or boosting broadband speed don’t require installation work, but it’s best to check how much you’ll have to pay before ordering any extras.

Is there a cooling-off period?

Yes, customers adding a new service have 14 days from the installation date in which to change their minds. All charges including the installation fee will be refunded, but you will be charged for any calls, upgrades or Pay Per View purchases you have made.

With regards to TV package upgrades, premium channels and the Sky HD upgrade, you can request cancellation of these with 30 days' notice.

What happens to my contract?

Upgrading an existing service will have no impact on your contract. However, if you add any extra services such as broadband or TV you must keep them for at least the full duration of the minimum term, which is usually 12 months.

If you discontinue any extra services before the minimum period has expired you’ll be charged for doing so. The cost of this fee will depend upon the changes being made and how long remains of the minimum term.
