Gigaclear Enterprise unlimited broadband review

Gigaclear provides fast and reliable fibre connections in rural areas to ensure a smooth online experience. The provider’s Enterprise broadband packages offer an exclusive, leased line service (also known as uncontended), meaning users don’t have to share an internet connection with anyone.

However, in order to get this personal connection installed, the premises have to be located either in a business park, or in close proximity to a pre-existing Gigaclear connection. Download and upload speeds ranging from 50Mbps to 10Gbps are on offer, along with unlimited usage and excellent technical support.

Cable.co.uk overall rating

Gigaclear Enterprise broadband comes with a wide choice of exceptionally fast symmetric speeds – up to 10Gbps – on an exclusive, uncontended line, along with unlimited usage, a high level of technical support and a free static IP address. However, the location of your work premises could be a limiting factor and prevent you from having a Gigaclear connection installed.

Speed & usage

Gigaclear offers a symmetric service, meaning both the upload and download speeds are the same. Gigaclear Enterprise unlimited broadband comes with six download speeds: 50Mbps, 100Mbps, 200Mbps, 500Mbps, 1000Mbps and 10Gbps. The lowest speed can comfortably meet the needs of small business. The top speed package of 10Gbps is really only necessary for very large businesses and can support thousands of devices or computers on one network.

The symmetric service is one of the star offerings in a Gigaclear package. With the lightning-fast, higher tier speeds, you can upload and share files instantaneously. It’s also worth noting that all Gigaclear’s broadband packages come with unlimited usage and are free from traffic management and fair usage policies, allowing you to download and upload as much as you like without any restriction at all.

Technical support

Gigaclear’s support varies according to the package you choose. All packages have a telephone helpline to call seven days a week, from 8am to 8pm with eight hour repair maintenance. If you purchase the 10Gbps or 1000Mbps package, you will be entitled to 24-hour support and onsite maintenance within eight hours. For all other packages, there is the option to upgrade to 24/7 telephone support, an engineer visit the next working day, or an engineer visit within four hours for an additional charge.

Gigaclear doesn’t really focus on security, due to the fact that it’s essentially a broadband provider for rural communities in general, rather than specifically a business provider. The modem does come with a firewall, but if you do want an extra layer of security, you’ll have to install separate software.

The Enterprise package comes with a free static IP address, which is necessary for running your own website server or setting up a secure virtual private network (VPN). It’s also ideal for setting up CCTV, so you can keep tabs on the office. If you need them, you can add an additional eight IP addresses for £12.50 per month.

As Gigaclear is a broadband-only provider, you don’t have to pay for line rental. However, you can subscribe to Vonage, who have teamed up with Gigaclear, and take out an online call plan. This Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) service is cheaper than subscribing to a landline; business call plans start from £8 per month and come with a number of call features including three-way calling and call waiting. Plus you’ll also get access to visual voicemail, a service that transcribes all your voicemails into emails.

Value for money

The Enterprise packages start from £530 per month for 50Mbps to £12,500 per month for 10Gbps. Although the prices are very steep, when you take a step back you are actually getting good value for money. Plus, you’re getting a connection via a leased line, meaning you don’t have to share it with anyone else. Just to give you an idea, line contention is measured as a ratio of users sharing a line, and Gigaclear’s other business packages are contended at 10:1, while its residential packages are at 25:1. The Enterprise packages check in at just 1:1.

A high level of technical support is included with the packages, but if you feel you need to upgrade, you will have to pay extra. However, most Enterprise packages come with good technical support as standard, so you shouldn’t need to. There is a one-off connection fee to take into account, which starts at £500, increasing to £5,000 for the 10Gbps level. All packages come with a free router.

Taking into account the fact that you don’t have to pay line rental and you are getting faster download and upload speeds than some top-end highstreet providers, the Enterprise package is a good investment. But if your budget can’t handle it, you could opt for one of Gigaclear’s business packages, which are considerably cheaper.

Equipment & installation

Gigaclear broadband is supplied via fibre-to-the-home infrastructure, so the installation process is a little more complicated than standard broadband suppliers. Parts of your property or office may need to be dug up in order to lay down the cables, but Gigaclear will let you know beforehand if any such work needs to be carried out. Installation costs are determined by the size of your property, but one of the advisers will provide you with a quote.

The package comes with an installation kit, which includes a 1Gbps Wireless-n router with four Ethernet ports. You can install the connection and router yourself, or you can use a local engineer. Alternatively, Gigaclear can send out an engineer from Boxcom, for a minimum cost of £95, although the price will vary depending on how far you are from the roadside.

Overall Rating

Gigaclear Enterprise unlimited broadband packages offer an impressive service for very large businesses. There are many advantages to having a leased line, but the high cost is a major drawback. Bear in mind that to join Gigaclear your business either needs to be located in a business park or near a pre-existing Gigaclear connection, and that there may be additional large expenses to factor in if much excavation work needs to be done for the fibre cables to be laid.
