Fuel Broadband reviews

Fuel Broadband, formerly known as Primus Saver, is a home broadband provider with some of the cheapest broadband packages on the market. Keeping prices low is at the heart of Fuel’s strategy, and the saying ‘you get what you pay for’ is apt.

But that’s not to say it’s an unworthy provider. For broadband shoppers on a budget it presents an ideal solution to the usually expensive issue of internet access, offering low prices on all its basic broadband packages.

About Fuel Broadband

Fuel Broadband was launched as a rebrand of Primus Saver in October 2014 by residential telephony and broadband company, New Call Telecom. Fuel, which guarantees to always be cheaper than BT, provides affordable, unlimited standard broadband over the copper cable telephone network.

It offers pay-as-you-go calls with its broadband package as standard, and charges £17.30 per month for line rental.

Bundles

Your Fuel Broadband package doesn't come with any inclusive calls – you'll have to pay for the calls you make. But you do have the option to purchase an anytime call plan that lets you call any UK landline whenever you like. Fuel Broadband does not offer any TV services. If you want a package with TV, you might want to consider Virgin Media, Sky or BT as an alternative.

New phone line installations

If you have never had broadband before, and you need a new phone line installed, Fuel will install one for free. Any subsequent engineer site visits will incur an additional £59 fee.

Availability

Fuel uses BT’s infrastructure to carry its broadband service. As a result, its standard broadband package is available to the majority of the UK. To see if it’s available where you are, enter your postcode in the box below.

Speed

Fuel Broadband only offers standard copper cable services. It comes with an advertised download speed of up to 17Mb. For the majority of basic online activities, such as emailing, browsing, checking Facebook and updating Twitter, this is sufficient. Although it isn’t fast as fibre, it is still sufficient to stream radio and standard definition TV. However, more demanding online activities, such as streaming HD content and downloading large files, would benefit from a faster connection.

Upload photos and files

Upload speeds are also important for a streamlined online experience. Any information you send from your computer to the internet counts as an upload, and the faster your upload speed, the faster these files will transfer. Fuel's upload speed is advertised as 1Mbps.

Extras

Budget broadband providers rarely have many extras, as they need to keep costs low. Fuel follows this trend. A broadband router – the hardware required to get you online – is provided free, and activation is also free. Technical support is located in the UK and is free to all customers. Phone line installation and phone line connections are provided free to new customers, although if you require several engineer call-outs, you will be charged.

Unlimited broadband is available

Fuel Broadband's package comes with unlimited, unmetered usage. So you can can download and upload as much as you like without having to worry about any incurring excess charges.
