TalkTalk Complete Business Superpowered Fibre review

Broadband is the lifeblood of most businesses so it’s crucial to find a fast and reliable service that will keep online operations running smoothly. Cost is a big factor too and that’s where TalkTalk comes in, offering unlimited fibre broadband at a reasonable price.

TalkTalk’s Complete fibre package includes some useful features such as several static IP addresses and 24/7 technical support, but is this enough to make it a great business broadband service? We review the details to help you decide.

Fast, unlimited and comprehensive sums up TalkTalk Complete Business Superpowered Fibre broadband. But as the provider has a poor reputation for customer service, it could pay to research feedback on TalkTalk’s technical support before you commit.

Speed & usage

Rating

4

Fibre optic speed and truly unlimited usage is the ultimate broadband combo and that’s exactly what you get with the TalkTalk Complete Business Superpowered Fibre service. TalkTalk uses the BT infrastructure to offer an optimum speed of 76Mbps, which is plenty for many business activities and several devices using the same connection. However, as with any bandwidth, the more devices you add, the slower it will become, so large firms should consider a faster service or separate connections for different departments. While 76Mbps is pretty fast in theory, the actual speed you receive depends on many factors, and as yet there is no official Ofcom data to detail how fast this service fares in practice. All TalkTalk’s broadband services are truly unlimited, which means there’s no traffic management or hidden usage caps to control how much your company can upload and download each month.

Technical support

Rating

4

If being offline for an hour due a technical fault or your website falling victim to a cyber attack would wreak havoc on your profits or reputation, you’ll appreciate why support and security are vital aspects of business broadband. TalkTalk includes two useful services to protect your devices and broadband connection with 24/7 technical support and WorkSafe security software. The technical team are based in a UK call centre and are on hand to deal with issues seven days a week, from 8am to 8pm for broadband and 24 hours a day for phone. But unfortunately there are no guarantees that problems will be resolved within a certain timeframe. TalkTalk’s online business support portal can help to solve broadband problems outside of these hours with troubleshooting and a live ‘health check’ on your line. Meanwhile, WorkSafe provides network-level security, which means all devices on your business connection will be protected from spam and malware. The main account holder can manage WorkSafe easily online, plus monitor the websites your staff visit and set unsuitable sites as out-of-bounds.

Extras

TalkTalk’s Complete Business package is the more advanced of the provider’s two business services. It offers up to four free static IP addresses by request, which is handy if you want to operate services such as onsite web servers, email or CCTV. If you choose not to take an IP address, your broadband will operate on a dynamic IP address as standard. Unlike the TalkTalk Simply Business plan, this one includes a call package featuring unlimited calls to UK mobiles and landlines (01, 02, 03, 07, 0845, 0870 numbers only) with free call waiting, call forwarding and other features. This TalkTalk package also includes two free premises moves within your contract period, so you won’t be charged to take your broadband with you if your firm relocates offices.

Value for money

Rating

2

Complete Business is decent value for such a comprehensive package with unlimited usage, inclusive call plan and a fibre optic connection with up to 76Mbps download speed. It is far cheaper than comparable plans from its biggest rival BT, as well as some smaller brands. However, you also need to factor in line rental at £15.50 per month in addition to the monthly broadband cost.

However, we can’t ignore TalkTalk’s less than sparkling reputation for customer service. TalkTalk has been one of the most complained about broadband providers for many years in Ofcom customer satisfaction surveys, which suggests this budget price tag could come at the cost of a helping hand when you need it most. Although this applies to the broadband market as a whole and not specifically business, it is worth investigating feedback on TalkTalk’s business support before you commit to a two-year contract.

Equipment & installation

The TalkTalk Complete Business Superpowered Fibre plan is supplied with a free Super Router (subject to £4.99 delivery). It’s TalkTalk’s most advanced wireless router, specifically designed for fibre broadband and future-proofed for download speeds up to 1.3Gbps. It has extensive Wi-Fi coverage and transmits on two frequencies at the same time to combine the best speed and widest coverage for any connected device.

Once you’ve checked whether TalkTalk fibre broadband is available at your business address and signed up online, you’ll be given an installation date and will be required to be available at your site to meet the engineer in the majority of cases. If you’re switching from another provider, TalkTalk assures that you should experience maximum downtime of an hour or two on the day of switchover, if any at all.

If you’re looking for a well-priced fibre broadband plan, this TalkTalk package is definitely worth a look. It provides a speedy internet connection for your business and a range of useful features, including WorkSafe security software, four static IPs on request and an inclusive unlimited call plan. It’s a strong alternative to the business plans from its biggest rival BT, which is also the most popular provider in the UK. However, it pays to do a little digging of your own into business customer feedback for TalkTalk broadband, because if consumer experiences are anything to go by, you might be disappointed.
