TenTel broadband reviews

Tentel is no longer in operation. Existing customer contracts have been taken over by TalkTalk.

TenTel offers both standard broadband and faster, fibre optic services. All bundles come with a landline and a choice of four call plans. The standard broadband deals are available on a rolling terms with no cancellation fees, although the flexibility comes at a price – these deals are more expensive than standard broadband on long-term contracts with other providers.

About TenTel

TenTel is based in the Scottish Borders. It prides itself on high quality customer service from its UK support centre and being cheaper than the big four telecoms providers (BT, Sky, TalkTalk and Virgin Media), excluding special offers.

TenTel’s unique selling point is the offer of contract-free broadband: you can sign up to one-month rolling plans that can be cancelled at any time without penalty. However, this flexibility only applies to standard broadband services: all fibre optic plans come with an 18-month contract.

TenTel offers five broadband and phone bundles (three standard and two fibre optic), which can be tailored with different call plans. There are several download speeds and monthly usage caps to choose from, including unlimited. All plans are inclusive of line rental.

You can also bundle your broadband package with TV. The TV service available on a one-month rolling contract. It comes with a variety of free channels and streaming services including Netflix, Now TV, BBC iPlayer and Demand 5. When you purchase TV with TenTel Broadband, you will save up to 50% on the standard cost of the Roku streaming stick or TV box.

You can pay for one year upfront

TenTel also offers the option to buy a year of broadband upfront. For a one-off fee of £249.99, TenTel Advance gives you 12 months’ unlimited broadband with an inclusive router and unlimited weekend landline calls.

TenTel operates on the BT Openreach network so coverage is likely to be on a par although TenTel does not publish any figures to confirm this. At the time of writing, BT has 99% standard broadband coverage and around 90% fibre optic broadband coverage of UK homes and businesses.

TenTel offers three different speeds – 17Mb, 38Mb and 76Mb. Like all providers, TenTel advertises each speed as ‘up to’ to indicate that they are the maximum possible, and that the actual speed you receive is dependent on location, phone line quality, and time of day. You can find out potential broadband speed on the TenTel website.

TenTel falls short on the extras offered by the more mainstream providers. For example, there’s no security software, public wi-fi or parental controls, so you’ll have to arrange and pay for these services separately.

Flexible one-month contracts

However, the short-term contract for standard speed services is a very useful feature for students and tenants who don’t want to commit to a standard 12-month or 18-month contract.

Customer charter and price promise

TenTel has a customer service charter, which commits to providing simple communication products that offer value for money alongside transparent pricing and a guarantee to beat the standard prices of the so-called “big four” (BT, Sky, TalkTalk and Virgin Media), excluding special offers.
