Frequently asked questions
TenTel is a flexibility-focused broadband provider with a range of short contract broadband deals and one of the most unique packages on the market: the TenTel advance deal. To see what TenTel has on offer, take a look at our list of deals. Alternatively, continue downwards for the answers to many of your pressing questions.
What is TenTel advance?
The TenTel advance deal lets you pay for a year’s worth of broadband, home phone, and line rental in a single upfront payment. This costs £249.99.
While that’s a lot to fork out in one go, paying upfront actually costs less than it would to pay monthly over the course of a year. Also, unlike the rest of TenTel’s broadband and phone packages, it doesn’t require a set-up charge or activation fee.
What’s the cheapest TenTel deal?
The cheapest deal changes from time to time, so we can’t give you a definitive answer here. However, if you jump to the compare table and arrange the list in order of price, the cheapest deal will appear at the top, like magic.
Don’t forget to take line rental and installation fees into account when looking for the cheapest broadband and phone package, as these can considerably boost the total price that you pay.
Does TenTel do no contract broadband?
It does indeed, but no-contract broadband isn’t quite as free as it sounds – you’re still tied in to an automatically recurring 30-day contract.
Even so, with no-contract broadband you can leave at any time without being forced to pay termination fees. This makes it a flexible option that’s also beneficial for students who may want to cancel their broadband with little notice.
While there’s no termination fee, there’s still the matter of installation. Generally, this is charged and payable upfront.
Does TenTel have a line rental saver scheme?
Not exactly. While TenTel doesn’t let you pay for 12-months’ line rental upfront at a reduced overall cost, it does let you pay for a year’s worth of broadband, home phone, and line rental upfront at a reduced cost, as part of the TenTel advance deal.
This has both positives and negatives. On the one hand, it removes monthly payments for broadband and home phone entirely, but on the other, you have to have standard broadband, as fibre broadband isn’t available in the advance deal.
Can I get TenTel broadband without line rental?
There are no TenTel broadband-only plans available; you have to pay for line rental. This applies to both standard and fibre broadband.
Can I get home phone with cheap international calls?
You can, but not as part of a basic TenTel home phone plan. TenTel has several add-on bundles that you can purchase in addition to your standard home phone service. One of these is the Hello international plan.
The Hello international plan comes with 100 inclusive minutes for calls to selected international destinations. There are no connection charges for calls made to international numbers and it doesn’t require a contract, so you can cancel for free whenever you wish.
Do I have to pay for installation?
On the majority of TenTel packages you do have to pay for installation. This isn’t always called installation however; sometimes it’s called a set-up charge, other times it’s called an activation fee. But no matter what it’s called, it all boils down to an upfront cost for installation.
If you choose TenTel standard broadband installation will set you back £0. This does not apply to the TenTel advance deal, which has free installation. If you choose TenTel fibre broadband you will pay £49 for installation.
Do I have to pay to transfer TenTel broadband during a house move?
If you’re moving home and transferring a TenTel standard broadband service to a new property, you won’t have to pay for transferral. However, if you’re moving a fibre broadband service to a new property, you will have to pay a £49 home mover fee.
If TenTel isn’t available at your new property you should be able to cancel your broadband service without penalty.
How long will it take to transfer?
It shouldn’t take more than a couple of days to transfer your broadband from one property to another, but allow at least 10 working days just in case TenTel is experiencing a backlog.
Does TenTel have traffic management?
TenTel does not have traffic management or any other form of traffic shaping policy whatsoever. All of its unlimited broadband packages are just that: unlimited. There’s no official limit on how much you can download during the month (though extremely high downloading activity may be questioned).
What about on capped plans?
Again, there’s no traffic management on the capped broadband plans either. You can download as much as you like, up to the pre-imposed monthly limit (e.g., 30GB, 100GB). If you pass this limit, you may either be prevented from further browsing or charged for excess use.
Can I cancel TenTel broadband and phone early?
If you’re within contract when you cancel you will be charged an early termination fee.
This fee is calculated on how many months you have remaining on your TenTel contract. For example, if you have ten months left, you’ll have to pay more to cancel than if you only had three.
You can cancel for free within the cooling-off period
There’s one exception to this; if you cancel within the first 14 days after ordering TenTel broadband and phone you can leave without having to pay an exit fee. This is known as the ‘cooling-off’ period. You won’t have to give an excuse to leave either – just express your desire to cancel and you should be allowed to leave immediately.
