Sky has a minimum contract term of 18 months, and doesn’t offer short-term broadband contracts on a rolling, month to month basis.
If you cancel part-way through a contract, you’ll have to pay an early exit fee, so it’s best not to sign up for a deal when you know you might have to cancel within the minimum term - perhaps if you want to move house or you’re a student living in temporary accommodation.
Sky offers both standalone broadband and a number of combined bundles.
As with most UK providers, Sky offers their broadband on its own. You’ll need a landline connection and if you make any calls, these will be charged on a pay as you go basis.
All Sky broadband and phone packages include a landline telephone service - even if you don’t use it for voice calls.
If you do use a landline phone regularly, it’s worth adding a call package with free inclusive calls instead of paying individually for every call you make. The brand has some great deals on offer, including free evening, weekend or anytime calls.
As you’d expect, you’ll find a great range of broadband and TV bundle options. With an 18 month contract as standard, you can choose from over 300 channels to suit the interests of your household, from sports to shopping. Sign up for a combined broadband and TV deal with Sky and you’ll receive a free Sky TV box too.
And you no longer need a satellite dish to get Sky TV! Sky Stream means you only need an internet connection to access all of Sky's most popular channels and services. It's just a whole lot more convenient, faster, and more functional than the previous Sky Q system that uses a dish – though that option is still available if you really want it.
You don’t have to be a Sky TV customer to get Sky Broadband, or vice versa, but their bundles can offer great value. Find out what’s available to watch on Sky TV.
For total convenience, some customers go for combined broadband, TV and landline phone provision from Sky. The brand has some great deals available with inclusive landline calling and a premium TV package.
Installing Sky Broadband is pretty straightforward. This is especially true if you already have an active phone line (which is the case with most households). You can also usually self-install your broadband with the need for an engineer to visit your property. Full Fibre packages will require setting up a new pure fibre line though, and Sky will advise you on what that involves as it will vary depending on the particular needs of your home.
If you’ve chosen a deal that includes Sky TV services, you’ll need to book an engineer visit to install the necessary equipment in the case of Sky Q, which needs a satellite dish. Better though is Sky Stream, which doesn't, and only requires you to plug it in, meaning you can be watching stuff on it the day after you order!
Sky Broadband usually waives any up-front installation fee, but this can depend both on the type of package you’ve signed up for, and the time of year of your order. Make sure you check what installation costs will be before signing on the dotted line.

When you sign up with the provider, they’ll send you a router so you can get hooked up to the service. The package you choose will determine the router you’re sent.
Sky broadband hub: All of the providers current packages comes with the Sky Hub router, which is the latest device available and a considerable improvement on the previous models. One of the best features is the improved WiFi reception throughout the home.
For more details about the various routers Sky has offered in the past and the latest offering, read our guide to Sky routers.
If you don’t need an engineer to help you set up your service, you may need a bit more help to get up and running. Our guide to setting up your router should have you connected in now time.
Sky has a couple of additional incentives for new customers that may convince you to give the brand a try:
WiFi guarantee – Sky offers the following promise to all broadband customers - WiFi in every room of your house, or your money back.
Free public WiFi – You can auto connect to thousands of free hotspots across the UK for a fast, reliable connection on the go. Sign up once, and you’ll automatically connect in the future. Simply check your WiFi is switched on, select ‘The Cloud’ from the available network list and follow the on-screen instructions for quick connection.
