Vodafone Fibre 2 is one of Vodafone’s entry-level broadband packages as well as one of its most widely available broadband services throughout the country. It offers adequate speed for everything from browsing the internet to streaming your favourite TV shows, from online shopping to videoconferencing.
Here’s a quick overview of who Vodafone Broadband Fibre 2 is for:
Vodafone offers a wide variety of broadband technologies: the older and slower FTTC (high-speed fibre cable up to a cabinet on your street which then connects to your home through a slower copper cable), the modern ultra-fast FTTP (fast fibre cable up to your property), home mobile broadband (which leverages Vodafone’s 4G and 5G mobile coverage to replace cables) and the on-the-go mobile broadband (which also relies on 4G/5G mobile data, but uses portable routers that work on batteries).
What differentiates these technologies is a combination of speed and availability. While virtually everyone can get FTTC or 4G, the newer and much faster FTTP and 5G technologies are available only to a fraction of the public. Furthermore, the mobile broadband packages come with restrictive data caps and tend to cost much more than fibre ones. As a result, FTTC remains the obvious choice for many.
The very competitively priced Vodafone Broadband Fibre 2 is the fastest FTTC package Vodafone offers. Let’s check how this package compares to the other Vodafone fibre packages:
Broadband Package | Download Speed | Upload Speed |
---|---|---|
Fibre 1 Fibre | 38Mbps | 10Mbps |
Fibre 2 Fibre | 67Mbps | 20Mbps |
Fibre 100 | 100Mbps | 100Mbps |
Full Fibre 200 Broadband | 200Mbps | 200Mbps |
Full Fibre 500 Broadband | 500Mbps | 500Mbps |
Full Fibre 900 Broadband | 910Mbps | 910Mbps |
Like all other fibre packages, Fibre 2 comes with no data caps or restrictions. More than that, Vodafone pairs its customers with its premium router, the Vodafone WiFi Hub. This modern router leverages its seven wifi antennae to provide ample wireless coverage even in medium-sized houses.
The Secure Net functionality is a set of anti-malware and anti-phishing (scam) website filters and customisable parental control tools that come free as part of the router’s functionality. Note that these tools only work when connected to the Hub. If you are using Vodafone’s mobile services, Vodafone has a different set of filtering tools. For public wifi parental control, you will want to look into Vodafone’s Norton offer presented in the next section.
The Hub also comes with the free Vodafone Broadband App for Android/iOS, which can be used to easily manage the router and its wifi settings, as well as configure the parental control tools.
If you are worried about wifi coverage or simply want extreme broadband reliability, take a look at the slightly higher priced Pro Fibre 2 package. It comes with Vodafone’s WiFi Guarantee, which means that Vodafone will pair you with the Super WiFi Plus, an Alexa-enabled wifi booster that extends your wireless coverage. If that still doesn’t fix your wifi problem, Vodafone will throw into the deal up to two further boosters.
The Pro package also comes with a 4G USB dongle that Vodafone calls Broadband Backup. This dongle connects to the Hub and enables you to use Vodafone’s 4G mobile broadband network through your Vodafone WiFi Hub if the fibre broadband ever goes down. The dongle does come with an initial 50GB data cap, but this can be extended for free as required.
Vodafone also partnered with Norton to give all Pro customers Norton 360 Premium anti-virus protection and parental controls for up to ten devices for free in the first 12 months, and then at half price for the next year.
With Pro, you also get support from Vodafone’s dedicated IT helpline, WiFi Xperts. Give them a ring and Vodafone’s technicians will help you troubleshoot and fix your wifi issues, provide extra wireless repeaters and help you manage your Broadband Backup service.
For a further extra fee, you can get the top-in-class Pro Fibre 2 Xtra package. This retains all the benefits of the Pro, but comes with unlimited anytime UK landline and mobile calls, a three months trial of the Apple TV+ streaming service and an Apple TV 4K media player. You will also be protected from price increases and get no rise in the cost of the package mid-contract (the other packages increase their price each April in line with CPI).
