How can I get a Virgin Mobile SIM?
You can purchase a deal from our easy to use comparison tool. Once you have chosen your plan you’ll be redirected to Virgin Media’s website. You’ll then need to choose a SIM card (micro, mini and nano) that is compatible with your phone. You should receive your SIM card via post within five working days.
Does my phone have to be unlocked for Virgin Mobile?
Yes. If it is a phone that you have received from a different provider like O2, Three or Vodafone, it’s likely that you will have to get the phone unlocked.
You can either get the handset unlocked by your current mobile provider or from a mobile specialist store. You can find these stores located on your local high street. Keep in mind that there will be charge to get your handset unlocked.
Can Virgin Mobile phones be unlocked?
Yes. To unlock your Virgin Mobile phone you’ll need to contact the customer service team. There will be a charge and you’ll need to make sure all your bills are up to date and you have paid all the charges owed to Virgin Mobile.
You’ll also have to make sure your phone is registered with Virgin Mobile before the provider can take any action.
Can I use Virgin Mobile abroad?

Can I get online abroad?
Yes you can. If you are travelling to a country in the EU you’ll need to purchase a Travel Pass. These passes come with a set amount of data and lasts for up to 30 days. Does Virgin Mobile allow tethering?
Being able to turn your mobile device into an internet hotspot and share your data can be a useful feature to have, however Virgin Media doesn’t allow tethering on its phone plans.
Can I downgrade my Virgin Mobile contract?
Yes you can. Virgin Mobile allows you to upgrade as well as downgrade mid-contract. You can do this at any point of your contract even if you haven’t reached the minimum term.
By downgrading you won’t enter a new contract. This means the length of the contract will remain the same and won’t be affected in any way.
Does Virgin Mobile have unlimited data?
Virgin Mobile used to offer SIM plans with unlimited data, however these tarrffs aren’t available anymore. If you are looking for plans with unlimited data, you may want to see what other mobile networks have to offer.
How is Virgin Mobile’s coverage?
Virgin Mobile doesn’t run its own mobile network it’s an MVNO (Mobile Virtual Network Operator). This means Virgin Mobile piggybacks on another mobile network to carry its calls, minutes and data.
Virgin Mobile uses EE’s network
EE is one of the most popular mobile providers in the UK and Virgin Mobile uses its network. It covers 98% of the UK population. Although it’s a high percentage, there are parts of the UK that are unable to receive coverage.

Does Virgin Mobile have 4G?
Although Virgin Mobile runs on the EE network, it doesn’t offer 4G. Until Virgin Mobile launches 4G customers will have to stick to 3G. However, Virgin’s business mobile users can benefit from fast 4G.
Does Virgin Mobile do credit checks?
Yes. Many mobile providers do this to prevent identity fraud and stop you from accumulating bills that you can’t pay for.
If you don’t have a good credit rating, it may be best to opt for a pay-as-you-go deal.
Does Virgin Mobile throttle data?
Yes. If you download more than 3GB of content, Virgin Media will slow you down to around 56kbps. If you rely on your mobile phone to browse the internet and stream content you may want to go for a mobile network that doesn’t slow down your speed.
