Hyperoptic 500Mb and 1Gb – three months free on 24 month contracts

Hyperoptic offers four discreet speed tiers, but its offer of three months free is not extended to all of them at the time of writing. Before you get too exciting, you need to know your chances of getting Hyperoptic if you haven't already had a leaflet in your inbox to let you know you can are extremely slim. By the beginning of 2022, Hyperoptic had reached 750,000 UK homes (of an estimated 27 million). However, take-up has been high in the areas Hyperoptic does reach.

Symmetrical connection: Upload speeds as fast as download speeds

Perhaps the most unusual feature of Hyperoptic broadband is that unlike every other provider you'd care to mention, its upload speeds are the same as its download speeds. This is sometimes referred to as a 'symmetrical connection'. Typically upload speeds from broadband providers are a fraction of the download speeds, and this is simply because tasks involving uploads (sending information from your device to somewhere else on the internet), are far less common than tasks involving downloads (pulling date viat the internet to your device to, for example, stream a movie).
