BT's digital TV gaming service 'to launch in 2011'

Tuesday, June 8th 2010 by Cable.co.uk

A new digital TV-based gaming service launching on BT Vision will be available from the end of next year, according to reports.

Subscribers to BT's digital TV deals will have access to an innovative gaming service by the end of next year, it has been claimed.

According to PCR, the OnLive platform, which has just made its US debut, should be available on this side of the Atlantic by late 2011.

While the service will be distributed via BT Vision, it is also expected to be made available to customers of other broadband providers including PlusNet.

Talking to the website, a BT spokesperson said the aim is to offer games usually made available on consoles through the system.

"Over time, as consumer broadband connectivity increases and as games become more complex, we expect cloud-based distribution models for gaming to become increasingly attractive and mainstream," the source added.

BT recently confirmed it has reached a deal with Arqiva which will see its digital TV capacity boosted so the firm can offer Sky Sports 1 and 2 to its subscribers.
